Anyone have sway bars on their '67-72 4x4?
 

I live on a Long and Winding Road. Hey isn't that a song. Well anywho: What type of sway bars did you use? How hard to install. Did you do both front and back? Where do you get them?

you cam make them work from a later model truck like a 77 or 80's. make sure you get the ends that go down over the ubolts. bushing can all be bought new. front.

I used one off an 84 truck on my blazer, just get the bar and spring plates off any 4x4 mid 70s to late 80s truck or blazer, the bushings can be bought anywhere, I got the upper bushing mounts off the same truck but LMC now sell these new in there 73-87 catalog and are cheap enough it's not worth messing with old ones. The 1-1/2" tube spacer would only be necessary if you have a 4" lift, I made these because I have a 2-1/2 lift and think I could do without them.

How were the sway bars mounts in the second set of pictures built? they look strong

There cut out of 2x4 rectangular tubing.

I might want to add that the axle tubing on closed knuckle dana 44 is smaller in diameter then the disc axles. So If you are running the early style and go to use the later spring pads you may run into problems with the u-bolts.

do you notice a significant difference in handling w/ the sway bars? How do they effect everyday driving (comfort)? Are they only effect for off road use?

I've seen sway bars mounted on solid rear axle vehicles as well (can't remember for sure but think I saw it on a police version of a car-maybe an older caprice). Again, any purpose on daily driven vehicles? I would think the ride would be harsher but less roll in the turns.

On my 72 I didnt notice any overall drawbacks as far as ride goes. It sure helped in the pitching side to side and really helped in the corners. Off road, it may have used up a little articulation. If your concerned about that they make disconects. I dont think adding one to the rear would be worth the efforts unless you tow alot. That could help you in overall stability, but unloaded the rear springs are taught enough to not sway to bad. Good poly bushings around can make alot of difference to. Just my 2 bits
