New Rebuild - Grounding Question

Just put my engine back in a 99 Suburban. It starts up and runs for a sec and dies. I'm not sure if the fuel pump is coming on. The fuel pump was working fine before I pulled the engine. I'm thinking maybe a ground wire didn't get hooked up or something. Is there only only one wire that gets bolted to the ground at the back of the head? Any other ideas of what might be wrong? Thanks

I broke the oil sender switch at the back of the engine and had to buy a new one. Hopefully I didn't get a bad part.

Do you have oil pressure on the gauge when you start it?

Yeah, the oil pressure reads pretty good pressure during cranking.

Fuel pump is coming on otherwise it wouldn't start at all.

Ok, I powered the fuel pump thru the connector where the relay goes in and fuel pressure goes to 60 psi. Relay checks out good. So, if the fuel pump is powering on, any ideas on what to check next? I poured just a little fuel down the throttle body and it did seem to run for a sec or two more.

Not sure what happened, but tried again this morning and it started right up. Maybe a lot of air in the fuel lines needed to purge out??

Doncha love it when they fix themselves.

Yep, of course that almost never happens to me. All I can think of is there was some air trapped in the fuel line.
