69 gmc rear drop???

1 Attachment(s)
I have a 1969 swb gmc. Of course it is leaf rear. I'm on the fence about the flip kit or a drop shackle and removing the helper. I have 3 leafs and a helper. From what I've researched some had 5/1 springs and some 3/1 springs. Some (I'm assuming with the 5/1) said that they left 3 springs to get the drop. I'm asking if anyone knows if I had a 2" drop shackle amd remove the helper (I'd have just 3 leafs) how low it would sit. I know they say the flip is about 5" but is that with the 5leaf pack? I'd like to have around a 4" drop in the rear. Any help appriciated.

I have a 69 shot step Chevy with rear leafs. It has the HD 5 leaf springs. I flipped it with the DJM kit and it netted 7" drop. I pulled the overloads just because they hit the CalTrac bars.

If you want just 4" drop, suck it up and buy the drop springs. That leaves you the shackle option if you want to go a little further. When you flip you lower the thickness of the housing plus the height of the springs and then the mount. I had "guesstimated" at around 6" and netted a little more.

I'm very please with how my truck sits and rides. I did not notch but it will hit the shorty bump stops on really sharp hits.

SoCoC10 do you have the 3/1 spring pack? And did u notch? This will be a daily driver (at least a couple days a week)and just didn't want it too low. I do like the the stance of your truck though.

I can't recall the spring pack count but no I did not notch the frame. Just trimed the rear bump stops. The DJM Kit comes with really short bump stops. Tires are 225/70 front and 275/60 rear on 7" and 8" rims.

This old thread where the guy says he did the flip then went back with leaf on top and removed all but three is what has me wondering. He said it was 2" higher than the flip but rode smoother. So with me only having 3 and a helper if I removed the helper amd and got a 2" shackle seems like it would sit close to the hight of a flip???

3" drop spindles and one coil cut for 5" total drop.
rear is axle flip with 5/1 spring pack.

Hitting the frame on some bumps with bike in back. Might go to C-notch.
