Offset wood bed holes

Getting ready to drill the offset holes with a forstner bit. Anyone have a easy way to set the depth with a hand held drill?

depending on the bit, I have wrapped tape at the correct depth, used a paint marker, a nylon cable tie and even a hose clamp wrapped around the the bit. you could also make a rod that clamps to the drill so you can only get so close to the project or use a short section of abs pipe that fits over the drill bit and butts against the front of the drill, cut to length so the drill bottoms on the pipe at the correct drill bet depth.
where there is a will there is a way, lol.

Ok thanks I was going to use tape but I figured maybe someone knows a better way.

I have been thinking of using a correct size hole saw in my drill press to cut the circle for the washer to the correct depth and sharpening up my small wood chisel to remove the maybe 1/8 to 3/16 depth of wood. Practice with some scrap wood to set the depth stop at the right height.

There used to be a tutorial on the net for doing those offset washer holes but I haven't seen it for years.

I saved the GMC Paul's bedwood measurements here in case something happens to it on his site. https://photobucket.com/u/mr48chev/a...3-d16cc47d1404 That and the other info that I have saved over the years on my Mr 48Chev photobucket page is there for folks to use.

If you have my page open and click on GM AD truck info (click on the drop down arrow) it opens up a list of things I have saved and you may see something of your own at times that can be shared with others to answer questions.

they do make depth stops for forstner bits, collars on a bearing that clamp to the drill shank

I know that but I have probably 40 sizes of hole saws in the box in the garage and don't own one Forstner bit. If I was doing several truck beds I'd buy the bit and collar but that is probably the only bed I'll ever do.
