Alternator Upgrade ?

Hello All, I am going to upgrade my alternator to a higher amperage when I add AC and a newer radio. I searched summit and came up with this page

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tf...engine-type/l6

I have a 250 inline 6, 69 c-10. Am I correct that this will work for the alternator upgrade instructions found in this thread? http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=119379

If not, can anyone who has completed this upgrade offer any advice? Im looking for 80+ amps. Thank you!:chevy:

I've got one just like that. I dunno if it puts out 100amps like its advertised, but it powers everything including strong headlights, an alpine amp and speakers just fine. I have a 350 without AC, but I'm positive it will run a compressor when I get to that. It always squeals for a split second on startup though.

I followed that thread and it was real easy (I did eventually get the MadElectric kit though).

Thats great! Thank you, I will either use this one or the 78 amp one I found at oreily. What is the madelectric kit? I saw a board member sells wiring harnesses for headlights and alt upgrades but those are a little steep for me right now at 90 bucks.

I dont remember his prices, but I did his full kit though, and it was a very good upgrade. He also has some very good info on all things electrical, including alternators, so even if you dont buy, the tech section is worth a look

Good thread! I may upgrade my alternator too.

Does one normaly run well (alternator) if the truck has set several years?

Re: Alternator Upgrade ?

It is likely, but you will be far better off going to an internally regulated alternator than deal with those PITA external regulators

I too just upgraded my alternator with this one from Skip White. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GM-CHROME-12...item4d0d64e432

At the same time, I upgraded my charging and starting system (remote starter relay) with the kits from MAD Electrical. Doubled up the fan relays for my Jeep fan and upgraded the headlight relays with fusible links and soldered connections. High quality wires and components for sure from MAD.
