Re: 71 C10 6.0 LS ground up build
I saw in Vic's thread you had a vibration in your driveline. I have had a vibration in mine at higher speeds (over 75 MPH). I took my one piece driveshaft to have it balanced and the guy at the shop said the diameter to length was all wrong. I think mine is 2.875" OD tube. Anyway, I'm having a new driveshaft built for mine out of 3.5" OD tube. I'll let you know how that works out.
Your truck looks great BTW! |

I also saw Vic's thread, and posted this in reply to your comment in his thread:
I bet you still need to adjust your rear end angle. I've always heard, and read, you don't want more than a 1 degree difference between the two angles. So if your rear end is at 3 to 5 degrees you should be set. 4 degrees would be best as it would match and be parallel to the transmission angle you already have. Mike might be on to something with the diameter too. I haven't heard that before, but it does make a bit of sense. I have a 3.5" aluminum driveshaft in mine, but it was more for future planning to be able to handle more power, when I was dreaming of adding a supercharger. That's not likely going to happen, but I have the driveshaft for it now. |
Re: 71 C10 6.0 LS ground up build
Thanks for the input everyone. I took my drive shaft to a driveline specialist yesterday. Just by looking at where tailshaft seal rides on yoke he thought my driveshaft was too short. I came home and measured and sure eonugh it's an inch short. Yoke was only in trans maybe an inch with suspension loaded. I'm having a new driveline made with 3" tubing instead of 3.5". They said larger tube diameter with steel driveline could induce more vibration also. I'm going to try this as I have already tryed moving rear end with shims.

Had a great time at the hot rod coalition car show this past weekend. Drove the truck over 200 miles and go top 50 out of 500 award. Haven't done alot to the truck lately other than working out minor rattles and that boring stuff. Here's a few shots of the truck at the show.

Haven't been on the forum in so long I forgot where to find my own build haha. I recently installed some new Budnik wheels to change it up a bit. Got best of show for my category what a great feeling!
