Fashionable Fever! - 1969 Chevy C10 Build

Hey! I've been a member on this site for a few years now searching through threads, asking questions, and looking through threads. I finally am starting a build thread! I've been wanting to buy a 67-72 Chevy since I was very young! I believe I saw one in a magazine and since then I've been in love with them. I own a 1969 Chevy Custom C10 Long Bed 2wd. I bought it in late July of 2009 from a family friend. It came with a 307 4 speed.

Pics to come!

I've been working on this truck off and on for a couple years now. In the last year I finally decided to park the truck and perform a frame off resto on the truck. Earlier this year I began ripping everything off to a rolling chassis. I got the truck sandblasted and finally had it primed and painted by The Foss Shop where I'm from. It took awhile for me to get the truck primed and painted because they were transforming a brand new truck into a work of art for the SEMA show. So all of there other work got put on hold because of it. It was a long wait, but worth all the while! It looks fantastic! I will post pics!

Plans for build :
Disc brakes all around, lowered 2 1/2 ", installing a BBC backed by a tremec 6 speed, bench seat, shaved firewall, no radio, no heater, no a/c, changing my steal bed to a wood bed.

Only things I'm not sure of is the color of the paint and the rims.

Thanks for checking out my build thread!

Ryan

This is of my cab resto in March/April of 2010. I learned from a few of my mistakes... I replaced a lot of the cab such as cab supports, cab corners, rockers, half of the floor. Put in sound deadener, carpet, and had my bench seat redone.

In the last couple pics I was applying laquer thinner to the frame and naval jelly which cleaned the rust and protected the frame.

This is the BBC I bought on Veterans Day 2010. It's a 454 backed by a TH400. I set it down in the shop and made a big mess! Coolant from the engine was coming out and then on top of that after I drained the oil into a bucket I accidentally swung the tranny into it! Pretty much all the oil from the engine was now on the floor lol. That's what I get for having a cluttered shop.

I picked up a set of 049 heads for my 454 build. I bought a porting kit and started smoothing out the heads as best I could before they went to the engine shop to get rebuilt.

Fast forward a year and a half - It took about a year at Quality Engine to build it since I was going to college I had to save up for parts. I had the block align honed, rebore and plate hone, the deck was blocked, and grinded for clearance. It turned out to be a 489. I bought it a Eagle stroker kit for it with a 4.250" crank, 6.385" H beam rods, and 8.7:1 SRP pistons. The camshaft is a Comp Cam 282/288 #XR282HR-10. The heads were CC'd at 109 cc's.

This is the shop that we finished up in 2011. Before 2011 there wasn't any electricity or finished walls or insulation. I wired in a 100 amp service put in a bunch of 120v receptacles and a few 240v receptacles in case of a welder and/or air compressor. Installed a 5.7kw heater. I put in 8' and 4' t8 2 lamp fixtures. We put BC plywood for the ceiling and walls just in case something would hit the wall it wouldn't put a hole there. Painted it white and put rustoleum floor epoxy with a clear coat. It turned out pretty nice! I love the floor now that I don't have to worry about spilling oil! lol

Boy does it look cold there. I could not move around if I had to deal with that kind of weather.

Did you have trouble with the door not fitting after you cut so much metal out of the floor . all at once.. i see that you did not brace the cab . I cut the same than out of mine and was hoping that your door fit good. no trouble

I like the garage and the wall are killing.

In post 4 I said I learned from a few of my mistakes. That was one of them. Lol I didn't think that would happen. I should have braced it. It took a long time to get them to fit. I'll have to work on it more when I start to dig into the cab again. And yes it gets pretty nippy around here!

Wow it's been awhile since I've posted/updated this project! I went on a little break working on it because I wanted to buy a house so I had to save all my money! I totally gutted the garage and started over. I made it right! :)

I should have taken some pics of when I first got it done- when it was clean ha! Brought my frame from my parents shop (which was in pics above) to my place in Fargo.

Let's see if you can find my frame...

Here it is! Behind all my junk ha. I actually had the frame painted right after I had it sandblasted in 2011? I can't remember, it's been awhile.

Rebuilt the whole front end with all new moog parts. New moog front springs and I upgraded my factory ubolts on my lower control arm shaft from 1/2" to 9/16" to beef it up a bit. They fit like a glove. Also repainted my control arms.
