Dana70HD Dually disc brakes

I am in the middle of converting my 1976 C30 Dually DRW to rear disc brakes. I have the (Ruffstuff) caliper bracket going to use 76-78 elderado calipers but I cannot remember or find which chevy 3500 Express van rotors to use. I just need the years that are compatible. I think that it was somewhere in the 90's but not sure. If someone know's the years that would be great. Thanks

3/4 ton fronts are for single wheel setup but in the rear. I am looking for the Express van rotors for rear for disc setup on my dually. These rotors are very deep like the the deep Dana 70HD drums. Looking for what years rotors I can use?

I've been debating on putting rear disc's on my Dually. These are exactly the rotors that would make my life SOOOO much easier when I do. So thanks again!

No I do not have any assembled parts. It is all riped down to a bare axle at this time. I am going to por15 all parts before assembly. But my frame comes first, I'm doing a ground up restoration. All I have done is some research so far. You can look up www.tmssfg.com , maybe for a liitle help. Here what I have so far 2003 chevy express 3500 rotors, 76-78 Elderado rear calipers for the e-brake. But I have not found anyone using them with a dually swap yet, so I am not 100% if they work or not for clearance issues, most use 73-87 3/4 ton front calipers. But then you have no ebrake, unless you go with a driveshaft e-brake. DIY4x4 rear disc brake brackets. I allready have ruff stuff brackets. Also 1/4" spacers between rotor and hub for perfect caliper centering. This is all with factory 16" steel dually wheels.

When you find out if it works, let us know. This would be a great swap.

Pics of the process would be awesome. Sounds like an FAQ in the making.

When I went to the site to investigate the possibility of a disc swap, I read this set-up was not intended for dual rear wheel applications. Blackbirds does offer GM based Dana-70 & 70U kits.

Hey MadCow, any updates on your Dana 70 conversion? Any photos yet? And you said that the Ruffstuff brackets and calipers, I'm guessing you used the single piston D52 calipers, fit inside a standard dually wheel? Did I get that right?

Re: Dana70HD Dually disc brakes

I have the Ruffstuff brackets, but I aborted that mission I purchase all brand new parts for the rear drum dana70hd setup. Upon reading more they did not recommend using those brackets if you were going to be hauling. So that tells me they are not strong enough.

Anybody know of a rear disk kit for dually's?

You might check out the kit from Blackbird at
http://www.blackbirdscustomtrucks.co...7.html#9dually

And from TSM at
http://tsmmfg.com/2882.htm

I'm hoping to get the same results, but from buying brackets and parts and using the dual piston Wilwood D52 calipers while incorporating a cable operated parking brake at each rear rotor.

I recall they were later model 3/4 ton van fronts or similar & 'single use' (not turnable) application. Check in w rs72z.

Re: Dana70HD Dually disc brakes

Hmm. For some reason, I thought you had to use those goofy-expensive Chevy Express rotors w/ the super deep "hub" to be able to use this kit on a dually.

Not sure but you might be correct. Best to ask rs72z....

That looks like the rotor i used. I had a complete rear out of a 05 dually truck and i used the rotors off of it on my dually.

Were they part of the 'kit' or ??

I bought the brackets from dyi and used the rotors off a 05 3500 dually rear. The calipers are off of the front on a 85 4x4.

Ok, not typing on my phone now so i will try and repeat this so it makes sense.

I used the brackets from http://diy4x.com/cart/index.php?rout...product_id=149.

The brackets didn't come with any directions or info, i found the info on another thread on here, by wyattglock i think.

The rotors i used came from a 05 chevy 3500 dually rear that i had already and the calipers are off the the front of a 85 3/4 ton 4x4.
