Wheel and Tire selection for a 1970 Step Side

We are looking at a Hotchkis TVS suspension system for our project but are having trouble determining the potential tire and wheel size after a 4" front and 6" rear lower. Has anyone dealt with this suspension?

For information on tire fitment you can post your question in the wheel & tire board, too.

Any particular reason to run the Hotchkis vs. other options? The reason I ask, is because the Hotchkis setup hasn't really been the go-to for truck handling and there's better options.

Did you find a tire and wheel combo

No, guess we will have to wait till
Everything is in place and then do all the measurements. Seems strange that as many of these trucks that have been built the info hasn’t already been documented. Oh well.

No.1 reason is because EVERY truck is different as are most every owners likes. What works for one may not another so you still can't go by the specs Avg. Joe provides. Yes, they can be used as a starting point but you should always measure your exact set-up when determining what can or will work.

This is what causes confusion & exactly why random numbers don't work. While this combo might have actually been installed on one particular Step Side truck, I know it wouldn't work on MANY others.

I don't need luck because I actually measure & ask specific questions if needed vs generic 'will they fit' questions. That being said, please don't take offense.

Without knowing the details & having pics of the actual vehicle, it's difficult to validate the combo for a different (the thread starters) truck.

Fugi..... 4/6 drops are mild so there's definitely room for some decent size rubber. My recommendation is to Google 'Hotchkis C10' & do some investigating. I know there are pics out there of multiple trucks running that Hotchkis set-up & they might have their wheel/tire combos posted. Find one you like the appearance of, try to determine those specs & work from there.

That's probably me. I have 18x9.5(5.25" bs) on all fours. I did have 285/40/18 tires, but now I'm running 275/35/18. I'm currently using TCI Engineering suspension, but I had this setup with a 4.5/6.75 dropped stock suspension.

The determining factor will be rearend width. I have a 72 rearend, which is wider than the 67-70 rearends. That's going to change your backspace numbers. Also, for what it's worth, the 5.25" backspacing is still a bit too much for a stock stepside bed. 5" bs would've been ideal, but hard to come by in a one-piece wheel.

Again, as SCOTI said, measuring what you have is the best way to know what will and won't fit.

Your truck & '1971_c10' truck were the 1st two I thought of when I opened this thread. Thanks for reinforcing the need to check your personal set-up vs what another truck might have. It can be a frustrating & expensive mistake.
