Re: project: FTD

well today i spent a few hours on a random person broken down at a circle K...
then spent a couple hours just grabbing the enite engine bay wiring and making sure all of the wires are the proper lengths, then bundleing them, laying out my wire looms, and then soaking down the entire engine bay with some drivewy cleaner, alot scrubs right off but it''ll be some work..
tuesday i plan on pulling the motor & tranny out so i can start on all that..
not sure if my wife will let me, but i was kinda hoping to paint the block, vc's pretty much everythign i can get..
she's gonna get mad but.. she will still love me =-)

Ahhh the wife! Some guys find that "motorsport" friendly wife. Mine is straight up cityslicker! But over the years she has SLOWLY came to terms with me and my 'manspace' time in the garage. That and the kids are getting older 12 & 14...BUTT then I had to go and knock her up again and now we have a 9month old baby in the house....so much for manspace time :waah::devil:
Keep at it and post up pics when you can!

I did that.I could see the light at the end of the tunnel.Next thing I knew,we needed another bedroom and my man-time was spent building that. Now he`s 17,it`s just him & me,and we have a spare room.

Now THAT is funny.
I needed a good chuckle in the morning...

Maybe there is a lesson to be learned here...

Re: project: FTD

OK gentlemen!
today i got in self etching primer, scraper, cherry picker, welder... sandpaper, alot of steel wool, and i am on my way over to tear down on a parts truck for a TON of spare parts and free sheetmetal...

i pulled the carpet, i'll post pictures and sell that for cheap.. i am going to repair the floor pans that i had previously just used tape and silicon sealent to patch and in the next few weeks i will line-x the flooring.. i am F-ing tired of carpet in a mud truck it is IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean...
interior is getting a "split theme.. bottom half starting at the glove box line dpwn will be gloss black and up will be blue metallic..
i want to do the entire truck in this theme.. B UT my wife would f-ing leave me if i did that..
i also have ordered all new cab mounts..
and ZOOM 12 in 305mm kevlar clutch..
i will post pictures in a few days when things are CLEAN and ready for paint..
thanks for any input!

Re: project: FTD

I am going to coat my cab floor with this.. lots of guys have used it and like how it goes on... I would spray with epoxy primer first and then this..

http://www.tptools.com/p/2600,233_U-...Liner-Kit.html

and here is a jeep guy that used it. or look up musclerodz 68K20 project

Re: project: FTD

Yo! Dude! You're as crazy as me!
Naw,...but damned nice work so far. Best of luck on time available,...and $$, too!
I'd saved a long while to start my truck rebuild project,...and was only going to rebuild the donor flatbed. Now, I realize that THAT would've been a foolish, "money-pit", pipe-dream,...so I stumbled into the perfect project build by finding FRANKENTRUCK!
I was going to spend about $6000,...but it ended up to be more like $8000 with the "front-wheel drive" capable transfer case and the Foose Spank wheels!
I get to show it off to the rest of the 67-72chevytruck.com forum northern Colorado bunch on June 6. It will be unpainted, with most of the bodywork completed, and exterior rust stabilized. Finished otherwise, except for a few minor projects (fan shroud, installing the w/s squirter hose and nipples, and trouble-shooting the fuel gauge open circuit, stereo, etc,...). So I'm still spending money! Got a great truck though!
One question for you though,...GOT THAT TRUCK LIFTED ENOUGH?!! Sure makes 'em easier to work on than my '76 Camaro that just barely clears speed bumps!!
Todd.

Yo! My flooring might be perfect for your application,...first, I stabilized the rust, used polyesther body fill to repair the small holes and strengthen the floor, satin black enamel, then 1/4" wool/foil backed insulation, and a single rubber mat for the entire floor.

Attachment 463233
(please ignore the WD-40 overspray on the mat!)

I've added rubber mats to each side that have small "cups" formed in them to hold water and dirt. Works perfect.
Todd.

dammitmitchell 05-20-2009 12:24 AM

Re: project: FTD

cool mats, i'll post pics tomorrow of the holes in my floor.. the carpet is cut out and later this summer i'll put some rhino liner (well wannabe) in it for my flooring..
i haven't even started cutting her bu i can fit three fingers THROUGH my floor and scratch my trucks belly....

today's progress is.. interiors gone.. entire front clip gone..
and i used a wire attachment on an angle grinder to strip off the factory rubber crap off the floor..
truck is barren but im still waiting on a dang cherry picker and engine stand.. i want to swear.. but screw it..
i also dismantled a 1970's floor frezer for a bunch of descent sheet metal off it.. sweeetness there..

dammitmitchell 05-21-2009 12:20 PM

Re: project: FTD

ok tonight hopefully i'll be posting pictures of the days worth of weding.. i filled 20 dang holes from self tapping screws...
looked like there was a ghetto stereo instealled back there at some tpoint in time..
the crap part of the da is that im useing flux core wire..
which sucks.. i strongly dislike it... but! im in abilene and it's too windy to waste that much gas.. BLEH!..
so you only get pictures of the "final " welds after i finish sanding them down..
cause it's a mess...

this is what she looked like before i started. imnot toching the outside durign this project..

Re: project: FTD

makin progress bud. Keep it up and keep the pics coming. U still didnt say how much lift u got and size of tires. Im guessing 6" lift with 37" tires maybe?

Re: project: FTD

orig truck is an 83 1/2T w a 305/ and a sm(465) 4sd granny lo
it now has a crate 350 (which was a PO disaster)
and ive rewires the majority of the vehicle allready..
(PO was NOT an electrician)
8 in skyjacker with 37's and good old fashioned 16in "usta-chrome" rims..poly everything, t case drop,
got the axles out of a 84 burban (diesel) so the gear ration matches the stock speedo gear.. thank god..

i got a video of it chain pulling a new dodge diesel and not losing..
but not winning either .. cause he's a jerk and used brakes..

Rollinsqrbdy 05-22-2009 06:42 PM

Re: project: FTD

Awesome. He used brakes? That dog.

dammitmitchell 05-22-2009 08:59 PM

Re: project: FTD

OK gentle men.. another update today i welded a bit more.. forgive the ugliness... but i also decided to not keep grinding on it because it's all getting "line-x"ed or what not...
but i also got the heavy as hell tranny out today..(with help of course)
and FINALLY got the clutch out..
started making a modified "box"for my ac.. (i do not want the big freaking ac box there anymore if ac isnt installed..
so i cut the box in half and am making a sheet metal duct for it..
i am also relocating the "vaccum ball" thing that was above it and that big AC relay into the inside of the cab below some duct and into the corner..

i wish i had the extra cash for the right patch pannels.. and i wish i had a gas welder also.. (which just sucks!)
ut anyway ive filled like 20 freaking holes.. and keep finding more!
thanks for your patience with my providing pictures..
