6 Lug Rally Wheel Center Caps

2 Attachment(s)
I just restored some 15x7 6 lug rally wheels (post 1973) that I put on my 1968 truck. My truck is 2wd 1/2 ton c10 so I do not need the big 4x4 caps that I have for any clearance issues.

Does anyone make a modified (smaller) center cap for these 6 lug rallies for 2wd trucks? Seems like someone should since I see a ton of these on 60-72 trucks.

Thanks.

Subscribed.I been trying to come up with something since I really don't like the original 4X4 caps.I wish they had nubs to run baby moons or poverty caps.

I run these on my '69 6 lug ralleys.
You can find them on ebay. They require a 7/16" conversion lug nut.

I picked up a set of those about a month or two ago. what all do you need you change when doing this conversion? just lugs or lugs and studs? If i change studs do you have to drill the hub to the studs or do they just press in? By the way lolife99, you really were busy on that orange '69 when i was there it was damn near to the frame. NICE!! I wish i the time and room to get that busy on mine.

Are those chrome or the reproduction ABS ones? These are the ones I restored, they are just huge.

Is there small "bosses" on the back of those new style caps you could drill and screw from the backside?

Re: 6 Lug Rally Wheel Center Caps

Your wheels are 8",no 7" 6-lugs made. The conversion lugs are the same duplex style but in sAE thread to go on earlier truly American trucks. The plastic hold-down lugs are black,if you go that route.
I likr=e the later style, but the originals look fine.Guys were doing what you are doing way before the`88s came out.You get the center stickers for the funky wheel covers from late-70s-95 with the fake pyrmid nuts.

chevlwb68 - I like what you did with the rims...are those trim rings or did you just paint the middles only?

thanks,
Jay

Incorrect. I own two 7" 6 lug ralleys. They aren't very common,... but they did make them.

I`ve never seen factory 7" rims. What 4wd did they come on?I`m open to learning something new.

Me too.I could use some 7's to bring my fronts in instead of having them out that extry in.

All four are 15x7". GM factory stamped. Do not know what they came off or exact year except I know they 73 and up. I got them off a guy on craigslist for $65 bucks. Sanded them down to bare metal and primed them. Then I used Duplicolor's Performance Wheel Coating paint in a rattle can, Silver, and painted the whole wheel. Turned out great. I primed and painted the fronts, backs, and the middle part you do not see under the tire. I have a buddy who does paint at Napa so I had him use the Spectra Eye Gun and get as close of a paint code for the truck color as he could . Mixed me up a quart of that in Enamel Lacquer. Shot the middle with of the wheels with that using a Siphon Paint spray gun.

The beauty rings are the 3'' deep dish ones. Kinda wish I would have the done the 2'' ones, but oh well I got a good deal on them. I got the rings brand new for $60 (all 4) at the swap meet. They are the SS ones, not the pop can aluminum Taiwan ones.

The Center Caps I got at the swap meet also for $20 bucks for all four. Used and beat up. Peeled off the center faded metal stickers, scrubbed them with steel wool, and then buffed and polished them with Blue Magic chrome wheel polish.

Running BFG Radial TA's.
Front: 245/60R15
Back: 275/60R15.

I spent a lot of love and time with these things. I like to stare at them a lot now. lol.

Hope this helps anyone looking to do the same.

Here are some new pics I got of them.

Re: 6 Lug Rally Wheel Center Caps

ok you didn't hear this from me but if you have a hot rod shop for BIG trucks you can get a 6" center cap for there axles ...it locks on the edge of the nuts that hold the axle in on the hub of big trucks..the same should work for you...it wil look ike a baby moon.....as soon as my truck hits the road its heading the the shop to try some on

I believe the application was early to mid 70's 4x4 Chevrolet blazers.
I was telling member tcb-1 how hard they are to find,... then I meet him last year at the Lawerence, KS swap meet,... and there were 2 complete sets there.
My buddy, member "hot trux",... also has a pair.

I've had one wheel for many years,... trying to find another one, to make a pair. I finally found the second one about 2 years ago.

Re: 6 Lug Rally Wheel Center Caps

Ok,so they were prolly used on TerraVans.I guess they need a narrower track.I can see the wheels look different.Look kinda like a Yota wheel profile, but GM style. Those would be rare.

Re: 6 Lug Rally Wheel Center Caps

okay so I just realized also that the 6 lug wheels have 10 holes (openings?...don't know what to call them) in them, while the 5 lug have 16. interesting, but cool......so it does seem to be a little rare.

Re: 6 Lug Rally Wheel Center Caps

The 8" ralley have the same 10 holes (slots) They are a little bigger slots than the 5 hole ralleys.
