Door post switch too long

I ordered new post switches for my 72 C20 rebuild, and they looked a little off when I was done. They had already been a PITA, as on install, the switch ran out of threads at the end, spinning in the door post instead of torqueing up. Pulled the switch, the threads stopped about 1/8 inch before the shoulder flange. Weird. Anyway, put a thin washer in place and they torqued up. Then I closed the door super slow. Spidey senses tingling. Sure enough, the door was 4-6 inches from closed when the switch plunger bottomed out.

Anyone with a 72 out there with a good source for the door post switch? I know what doesn't work! I'll post a pic of the box, when I get back to the shop.

Thanks!

These are the ones I ordered from Classic. Just too long, by about 1/4 inch. That translates to maybe 6 inches of door travel at the jam?

The old ones I pulled out were split, like they were too long, as well. Has anyone ordered a set of switches that worked? Where from?

Thank you!

Many of those switches are adjustable. The inner "tube" section of the switch is a snug press fit into the outer "nut" portion and can be slid back to match the length of the old switch.

In theory, you could install the new switch and it would get pushed in to the correct distance the first time you close the door. But in practice, that can often result in denting the door or other damage. A better method would be to pre-adjust the length of the new switch by carefully squeezing it in a vice. For that you will need to find a piece of tubing/pipe, deep well socket, or other suitable spacer that can be placed over the base/terminal end of the switch, leaving room for it to slide in a bit.

I just go to pick n pull and get switches from trucks into the eighties, they have spade clips, just cut off your end and install a spade clip and good to go

Thanks Ray, Jim...

I wondered if there was a trimming or adjustment that could be made. Nothing seemed apparent by looking the switch over. That makes sense, if I can get the stand off to slide into the mounting a way.
