50 gas tank

I've seen a rear bed gas tank available for original frame..any other options ? I've heard of a 65 Mustang tank but not sure where that fits and how hard to put in. Sure appreciate.

The Mustang tank will fit in the frame rails. You may have to move a cross member. http://www.tanksinc.com has them .

The Mustang tank is inexpensive (around 100 new) and easy to install as you see in the photo. They also don't hang down much. The only real issue with it is that you end up having the filler neck/cap come up though the floor of the bed. Not terrible on a cruise/show only truck but it can be a pain if you actually haul anything and that includes the stuff you might load up for a road trip to an event or just a road trip.

I've got a 20 gallon aluminum tank under mine and the filler comes up in the middle of the back of the bed. Other than that I don't like that it hangs down too low below the truck. That is an issue for a lot of us with certain tanks, they just hang down too far.

I've got what I think is a 17 gallon 77 Blazer tank that I picked up from a guy a few years ago that I plan to put in the 48 this build if it fits the way I want it to. the expansion chamber on top of it might be an issue height wise though as it sticks up pretty high over the rest of the tank.
The tank

Side shot of the top of it.

That may not be as bad as I thought.
I also have a 92 Dodge Dakota tank that goes in front of the axle on the driver's side but it is still under the donor truck. 15 gallons but it may go in my Model A.

Mustang and Blazer don't work as well as a 67-68 Camaro for a 1950. The frame is much wider in the back on a 50 that it is on a 55 up. we ran the fill though the left fender, but you could do a bed fill or rear fill.

check this link ouit. an 49-52 chevy car fuel tank installed in the rear of a 65 chevy truck. the fuel fill is at the rear corner and the tank is not too deep. dunno if it would work for your application though.

If you order that 49/52 Car tank from gearheadworld on Ebay it has free shipping. Probably drop shipped straight from Tanks Inc. Tank is still right at 200 but it would save about 40 or 50 bucks shipping.

29-1/4 x 21-1/4 x 8-1/4 fits in a lot of spots even if it is 200 bucks.
The 18 gallon is 9=1/4 deep. if the inch makes a serious difference.

How much is that 68 Camaro tank and how did you mount it exactly?

Check out the 62-67 and up to 70 Chevy II /nova tank also. It is only 8 3/4" deep. (38 wide 19 3/8 and 8 3/4) It has a center rear exit.

I put a 20-gallon Blazer tank under the rear bed of my '50 PU. It wasn't visible at all, unless you got down on your knees. Fill comes out the driver's side rear so it's easy to run either out the side of the box, fender or bed floor.
