Some Pics:
http://s958.photobucket.com/user/al1...0pickup?sort=3 Arrived in San Diego today , had a great trip and the truck ran great, no trouble at all. cruised 70-80 MPH all day long with out a whimper . stopped in Overbook Oklahoma and had my original hood installed by Dan Roberts and his son, they did a knocked out job and got in on just right , the seams all look nice. He has lots of 60-66 stuff and builds some nice trucks. Spent a day in OKC to visit daily and friends then on to Socal via I 40, I 17, I-8. attached some photos of the journey and stops in Art Deco gas station in Texas, and the corner in Winslow AZ. Will look for a painter in San Diego area for hood, just need a decent paint job, not custom as it is a patina truck any way. any one on the site that might know of a shop would be appreciated. I will be here in Socal for several weeks. thanks to all for the great advice in planning and along the way, i will post up details on the trip back to FLA in the fall. Allan |

Love the pictures. We went from Chicago to the pier in 2015 at this time of the year. Lots of your pics are familiar to me. Great trip. Enjoy I know we did. We took 2 weeks out and 2 weeks back to Southern Ontario.

found a paint shop in San Diego, they mixed me up some matching color paint and referred me to a local painter, will get it painted this weekend, can't wait

Re: Florida to California Road Trip 1966 C10 SWB
Hood looks great. Very nice match. Painting these 62-66 hoods is so frustrating because of the all the sharp up and down lines on them and you will shoot them thinking you are going so slow and not putting enough paint on it and make your final pass and swoosh! The paint starts to slide and puddle everywhere and there you are crying like a fool! Wait two days, bust out the soap, water and 220 grit, block the puddles thinking you can save it and then you burn through and go back to the paint shop cussing because you only have half a pint of paint left to do touch ups to the whole truck and you need a good pint of color to do the whole hood. Its a big panel with a lot of acreage on it. But Im glad you didnt have to deal with that agony. Your truck looks great and you are really enjoying her. I want to do an extended road trip in mine someday.

Re: Florida to California Road Trip 1966 C10 SWB
just got back to florida, my place survived the IRMA, thanks God.
what a drive from Tipton GA, to Orlando. I drove smaller highways as I75 stopped dead. had 20 gallons gas in cans in bed. had to use it to get home. drove my 66 via LV/Denver/OKC/Dallas/Montgomery AL. it ran nice all the way, had a PS hose spring a leak in Denver. found a good local shop and was only delayed about 3 hrs. |
