Trailer Wiring Adapter '95 suburban
 

Just bought a '95 C1500 suburban for my younger son. It is equipped with a tow package, but I need to change the wiring. It comes with an adapter plug in the tail light wiring harness that fits in between the harness running to the rear and the harness which goes to the tail lights. The adapter has a flat 4-wire pig tail coming out of it.

Did/Does Chevy offer a version that has a round 7-wire socket instead? It would be easy enough to clip off the 4-wire plug and install an aftermarket 7-wire socket, but I had hope that I could just unplug the current one and plug the correct one in. My '95 Tahoe and '99 Tahoe both seem to come with the kind of thing I am looking for, but google is proving to be useless in my search, so I thought I'd ask the folks here.

Plug in the 4 flat connector to what is already there and hide it. Mount the 7 pin.

Just remember you won't have 12V supply or brakes going to it.

There should be a 7 pin trailer harness installed from the factory. It will be taped up along the frame or above the rear bumper. You can wire your 7 pin connector to these wires. The blue wire(for the trailer brakes) and the red wire(12v+) start in the engine compartment. They should be taped to a wire harness near the underwood fuse box. The red wire gets attached to the positive stud in the fuse block, the blue wire will go to the brake controller.

Well, I found some of that wiring--the red and the blue--but it's been cut off. I think the rest was yanked out and replaced by the T-adapter. Apparently there is no plug-in solution anymore, but I can make one work with something like speedygonzales suggested.

It wasn't cut off, that's how it came from the factory, there should have been terminated splices at the end of each wire. You have to cut the end off and connect your new 7 pin plug to those wires. It never was plug and play on these trucks.

^^ What 95_S_Trucker said. I have a 95 Silverado and 95 Yukon, and I put 7-pins on both. Crappy adapters wind up causing issues. Never had a problem with with ones I wired up directly to the factory wiring.

Nope: the wires have been chopped off. The bare ends are hanging out.

I never had terminals on mine either. I had to undo the taped ends and cut the end off, then run them to the 7-pin and screw them in. It's pretty easy.

So what about the brakes?
 

Did you have any intention to connect and use trailer brakes?

What about the charging circuit for the brake-a-way battery?
