Fitment issue after Z
I have a 65 C10 that we bagged. The front was Z'd 3". I Was reassembling the front clip, and everything is way out of whack. Pictures show the small rubber piece under the core support. I currently have 1 3/4" body mount under it, and that's still low. Hood is hitting the heater box... And has a pretty good gap between grill and bumper.. anybody have any ideas what went wrong?

Wish I could see the photos. I've Z'd a few front frames in my time...taking and marking measurements before cutting, as well as building a fixture helped me maintain original mount locations for the front sheetmetal.

Well I didn't z the frame. My buddy built this frame years ago, and figuring I could save some time, used this frame instead of bagging the original.. everything measures out good on the frame. This isn't the first truck I've bagged. It almost seems like the front shouldn't have been z'd.. it's weird.. this is the first time doing anything on the 60-66 c10's.. making sure I wasn't missing anything.

Hey Domer,
What do you have for body mounts on your cab? I hope some guys that have more experience with Z notch stuff chime in. I can tell you that you have way to much rubber under your rad support. That is giving you the space between your grill support and your bumper. The body lines look okay which makes me think you might have too much for your body mounts under the cab also. Im not sure about the hood hitting the heater box. That one has me wondering a bit. Hinge adjustment maybe? |

So I know whats supposed to be there.. I have that kit. But it obviously wont work.
The body is sitting on a normal poly body mount. About 3/4-1" thick. It was bought for this truck. Now, I haven't tried fitting the bed yet to see how the cab lines up. Gonna try that next. And go from there. As for the hood, I dont even have the hinges on yet. That was just set in place to see how things lined up.. which makes me wonder if that fender was sitting too low causing the hood to droop... |

When your friend Z'd the frame, did he make his reference measurements with the cab on the same poly mounts, or was the cab mounted directly to the frame for more of a channeled look?

I have to ask a silly question. So the frame was cut some where between the firewall and the control arms. The frame with control arm section was raised (Z'd) 3 inches. Was the frame in front of the control arms cut and lowered 3 inches? If the only cut was made near the firewall, the bumper, core support will be 3 inches to high.

No, both cuts were made to 3". But the core support is 1 3/4" above the mounts.

Sorry was just able to see the pictures you posted. Have another question or something to try. If you take a long steel bar, angle iron and hold it up to the bottom of the frame under the cab. Have the bar go to the front of the frame, look at last couple of inches were the bumper brackets mount. Does that area seem parallel to the bar, parallel to the frame under the cab? Is it running up hill or down hill compared to the frame under the cab. If you take a measurement from one side to the other, are the numbers the same?

So I can't really run a piece of metal as my lca and sway bar are in the way. Measurements side to side are the same. Also, I fitted the bed today, and it's all good. So definitely the front is the issue.

If the truck will lay frame on the ground and you have a level floor. Use that as a way to measure. If not add a 2 or 3 inch block in a few places between the cab frame and the bar stock. Use a floor jack or tape to hold it. That should get you under the sway bar. If I was to take a guess. I would say the frame has a pie cut, cut was not parallel. The front part of the frame is lower, runs down hill, then where it needs to me

Thats what I'm thinking. Gonna cut the front z off, and bolt it to core support. Then weld it back in where it needs to be.

When I did my Z I ended up being 1/2'' too high in the front. I cant find where it came from no matter how much I measure. I can only assume the frame is tilted upwards a hair and over that 2 feet it gave me an extra 1/2''.
