1974 headlight bezel color
What is the correct color of the headlight bezel on a 1974 Chevy? Talking about the insert part of the bezel. I've seen them black and I've also seen them in a grey/silver color.
I was just given a pair of original bezels that have been re-plated and would like to use them to replace the plastic bezels the PO installed. Thanks. |

Mine was black originally, but faded. I repainted them.

Came out good, thanks for posting.
Just wondering if the color of bezel was dependent on the model type (Cheyenne, Camper special, base model ...). |
Re: 1974 headlight bezel color
Not related to trim level, only dependent on model year. There’s a great thread on here somewhere that shows the evolution of squarebody headlight bucket colors - can’t find at the moment. But yes, as bandit mentioned, 73-74 (only) were black (regardless of trim level). Before you paint, it’s worth researching the sheen - they were not gloss or flat, somewhere in the middle. Satin or semi-gloss-ish.

I'll keep searching for the thread to get more information before I start spraying. Thank you.

I have seen the black and silver both but not sure of models. I like the black better cause it gives the front more contrast since the grill, bezels are silver and chrome. Painting is tedious work masking the non painted areas. Took my time and worked well.
I used this paint. |
