Ain't that the truth Eraser!

Little behind on updates. I dissassembled wire brushed, primered, and painted my 52" springs. Just waiting on new teflon pads and center pins.

Looks like I have some new plans due to an awesome donor truck I just picked up.

Damn I just drove it around and I like this thing. giving me second thoughts!

I plan to run some H1 Hummer military beadlocks with the dually axles and eventually the 454 will go in the burb.

For sure, never a question of that. I bought the 1 ton for parts for my burb. I just feel bad about taking apart a perfectly good truck for parts. At least for a day or two

But thats how you get one really cool truck!

68 suburban with 454 tbi th400/np205 1 ton axles sounds good to me!

We'll see what I end up doing. I might throw my old axles under it and sell it minus drivetrain as a roller. But I am taking the axles, tranny, tcase, engine maybe the hydroboost too.

Thanks man. yea that puts a damper in my plans. wrong axle for running H1's I am thinking the best bet is to get some SRW hubs. So I can gave more choices in rims and not have **** selection limited to just 16.5" tires.

I have a Dana 70HD DRW. I might be willing to trade depending on what you have to offer.

what gear ratio and what are you looking for?

ERASER5 08-14-2009 04:41 PM

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up

MAYBE the Hydroboost? I would say DEFINITELY the hydroboost. You will have more clearance for the BB valve covers, and way more brake pressure and thus more stopping power. Collecting all the pieces is the hard part and you have all the pieces. The burb is going to need all the brakes it can get when you put big meats on it.

Good points. Especially about the valve covers. The 1 ton brakes up front and rear discs hopefully it should stop OK.

The 70 has 4:10 and posi. A Dana 60 Front would be nice.

Well I am interested in the axle because that is what I would need but you know a dana 60 front is not a free trade and I only have one and I had to buy a whole truck to get it. If you want to sell it let me know. I'm actually going to be in Madera next week so I could pick it up.

1st What year is the flat bed?
2nd Why can you not run the H1 wheels? I was sure that all 8 lug patterns were the same. Yea, the hub size varies some, but not much. That is until you get to the late 90's Fords. Looking at VTBlazer's H1 wheels, I like them a lot.

its an 87

They bolt up but the backspacing isn't right with SRW hubs. Thats why people use dually axles it evens out. the 87 is a cab/chassis truck so the rear is narrower I think. You need an axle out of a dually with a bed than srw hubs/axles? on the dana70hd makes it match the dana 60 DRW perfectly. That's what I've read at least. Or you can buy recentered H1 wheels from some people.

Re: 68 GMC 4x4 Suburban build up

Ah! The dreaded backspacing issue. I see now.

I need to buy a K30 and get the dana 60 it seams like all the other parts are worth the extr$$$ vs just buying a $800 dana 60?! I missed a complete running driving SRW K30 for $1200, darn it!? I'll find one!

Yea same boat here. It will end up costing less buying a whole truck.

Thing is I don't think me or you really NEED a dana 60 :) Nice knowing something is stout though.

OK! Little bit of a break but got some work done, took the 52" rear springs apart painted, new poly bushings and teflon spring pads in um.

The leaf spring bushing sleeves where not fun to remove.....
http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._2051139_n.jpg
52" front springs installed, looks like they will net some good lift!

BFH was needed to get the bushings into the front spring hangers tight fit!. Used the 2nd to last hole, not sure if this is best or why, just seemed like the right place.

Now too pulling my dana 60 out and throwing it under there......

Man, I hope my 52" springs don't give me too much lift?! I was hoping for 3-4" max, I may need to shorten my shackle brackets?! Looking good, can't wait to see the 60!! I have a line on a K30 SRW w/454/th400! I am trying to wheel and deal (trade) I have a lot of stuff he wants and I want his TRUCK!

You should be alright, everyone has said it gives about 4-5" I'd just make sure to get a 1/2 ton spring pack and remove the overload.
