Just another rear axle ID thread!
1 Attachment(s)
Ok I pulled the rearend outta my 67 and I'd like to know what it is, but I couldn't match any codes or ID numbers.. it appears to have signs of spring perches at one point. However it looks like it was a decent job(good welds and grinded smooth) regardless I would like to know some about it.. here's some pics

According to the charts it looks to be a 3.73..... The HA is what you use. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=578793 Don't mind the c14 designation. LockDoc |
Re: Just another rear axle ID thread!
Right on. Thanks doc, I had dug up that thread but that C14 threw me off. Any way to know what it originally came from? Or if it's posi? I can't recall the wheel spin trick to determine posi, lsd, all that jazz. Thanks again

Not a Posi. Letters would be "HC" or "JQ" for a Posi in '67. Jack it up so both wheels are off the ground and spin one wheel, If both wheels go the same direction it is a posi, if the wheels go in opposite directions it is an open rear end. LockDoc |

Cool, thanks again

Re: Just another rear axle ID thread!
I've been fooled by rear axle id codes enough now I don't even bother checking. After 50 years I'm sure it could use a fluid change and a new cover gasket. And if I was working on it, I'd do a pinion seal as well.
Once you get the cover off, there is no doubt about what is inside. |
Re: Just another rear axle ID thread!
This is true, however I serviced it right before I tore the truck apart, (no miles)and when I have the Cashola I am gonna do an all new 3:73 posi u and new axles and powder coat. But for now I was just curious! Thanks for the reply!
