Re: 69 c10 wont fire up

Is the distributor spinning?
Is the battery weak?
Is the cap old and nasty? Cracked?
Grounds for engine are good?
Burned up rotor?

For the heck of it, pour a little gas down the carb and see if it wants to start?

Points & condenser or electronic ignition? Which electronic?

One plug has no spark or all of them? <-- Quite important!

Turn it over in the dark to see if any wires are grounding out.

If you are running an HEI should always keep a spare module around IMO. It is the component most likely to fail and easy enough to swap and test.

That's my guess too. Ignition module.
Easiest way to check spark is throw a timing light on a few of the wires.

Re: 69 c10 wont fire up

The module is the usual culprit and on occasion the pickup coil fails. In all of my years I have only had one pickup coil fail. Nephew said that was the problem with mine. I said nooooooo. Yup. It was. You have to disassemble the dist to replace it too.

Make sure battery has a full charge.

Skip White sells a brand new L6 HEI distributor complete for $68. Gives you a spare everything.

See your replies in the electrical forum.
It isn't a good idea to post in more than one section about the same issue, it leads to confusion for forum members and besides it's against forum rules.

Re: 69 c10 wont fire up

oh sorry i didnt know that. just to let anyone know who has to deal with this ever.. the problem was the coil. like it is most of the time. also when i was removing the old one i noticed that the ground wire was in the wrong location. the coil is held on by four screws, ground wire is under one of them, under the coil is a metal strap that the one screw goes in. my truck is now running great again thanx for everything. again sorry for the posting in more then one fourm

Re: 69 c10 wont fire up

Darn I thought about the ground on the coil but you said that it had just quit running so the module seemed to be the culprit. You got a lot of good ideas anyhow.
