ive been tossing up the idea of starting a build thread since the day i joined this site a few years back, and i figured starting it now is the right time besides the fact im taking 15 units at school haha :waah::dohh:

I bought the truck a few years back in high school for my 18th nice gift to my self over the years ive done every thing on my own with the help of a few good friends learning along the way. here are some pics of the day i brought the truck home!

i picked up my new toy for a very reasonable price from a friend of my dads, he had no use for it he has a bad a** 77 already and his son wasnt intersted. i replaced power steering pump and starter right off the bat, i then picked up a set of military oz of a local guy for pretty cheap.I knew the 35s wernt gonna cutt it for me. in the process of bring the tires home i grenaded the ring and pinon on the free way so i picked up a 14 bolt FF out of a military blazer.

For the next few moths it was a downward spiral it seemed like everytime i started the truck something els broke causing me to go broke i rebuilt the front end hub to hub after failing to fix a wheel bearing that i thought would "last" definition of young and dumb haha, i put a 105 amp alternator in new high flow water pump edelbrock intake due to a vaccum leak edelbrock 600cfm carb along with summit racing headers and exhaust. i wish i had pics of all my work but i lost most of my pictures but i make sure to back them all up now

I went to a concert and got the coolest idea where a guy in a ford… i know rarely guys have good ideas with fords… anyways he had a fold out stage out of his truck bed i decided that was too much work and u couldnt use your bed to haul stuff so i had a buddy who bought a 75 to use the running gear for his 45 jeep so i bought the cab and flat bed off him for 200 bucks with title and plates so ill have a smog exempt truck. i was going to run a flat bed with a stripper pole.

after 25 years of running strong and never given me or the previous owner a problem and 285k miles later the original motor decided its days were out numbered. i even went above and beyond 3 days prior to the the motor blowing and redid the entire cooling system and added electric fans. still wasn't enough for the California heat i guess

after a month or so of debating on what i was gonna do with the truck i decided a whole new power plant was the way to go. i couldn't justify putting money into the old 350 with so many miles and not being able to garunte the bottom end would hold much longer. i had some money saved from working 40 hours a week for a year so i decided a summit motor was the way to go and i went with the 383 budget build motor. i think 330 hp and 370 ft lbs was a good place to start haha

Yeah no doubt I'm not a fan of the round head light front end. That's why I peaced together this kit. It is not DOT approved but who gives a rats a** lol

Re: 1986 k20 "the mullet"

well last week was proabably the scarriest week i have ever had in the truck ha ha. i started the week by almost wrecking it on the free way doing 75 mph when some lady decided she was going to stop for no apparent reason on the highway. i slamed on the breaks and nearly hit the k rail putting the truck in to a 4 wheel tire skid saveing the truck by a matter of 6 inches, then my alternator was acting funny it was charging but charging danm near 18 volts then back to around 13 and back up and just fluctuating so i purchesed a new voltage regulator from a local parts house. spent saturday putting it in and got it hooked all up and went to hook up my battery and there it was i had an electrical fire in the engine bay i fired my harness to the point of no return luckyly the pick n pull had one for 15 bucks! i got that and a new alternator from summit on the way hopefully it will be here in the next day or so, so i can put it back together.

Re: 1986 k20 "the mullet"

im back at it again. The tired th400 couldn't take the abuse i was putting down with the 383 and took a dump on me but luckily it made it home this time. i decided that i would go with a sm465 and a 208 combo. i purchased a 83 parts truck from a buddy. i also decided to start my B52 swap from Diy4x as well as rebuild the 10 bolt i have. its getting a reid racing knuckle sky off road cross over steering. Along with an interior swap with some s10 buckets and a blazer center console.
