Made some very minor progress this past week. I set my bed floor on the frame and noticed that I had quite a bit of clearance between the bed floor and the gas tank so I decided to raise the tank up about 1.25 inches. Did this by installing a piece of steel tubing inside the frame rails on each side and mounted the tank on top of those. I think it looks much better mounted this way. Also finally got the fuel line ran.

Here's some pictures.

Thanks Matt! I'm starting to get focused on the engine build now. My father and I will be building a 383 for the truck. Hope to order my rotating assembly sometime this week.

do you happen to have any pics of the gas tank in place with the bed floor mocked up before you raised it. how high is the filler neck and fuel fittings in relation to the bottom of the bed now that it is raised?

Thanks,

Re: Mieser's 71 Short Wide Project

It's 5 inches from the bottom of the frame to the ground (measured at where the trailing arm crossmember sits). There's still a LOT of weight to be added so I expect that number to decrease some as I think the front will still come down some (the rear is sitting on the bump stops).

Don't have any pics of the floor on the frame before I raised the tank. I set the bed floor back on the frame today and here is the filler in relation to the bottom of the bed floor now. Unfortunately, now that I raised the tank the rollover vent is hitting one of the cross sills of the floor so I'm gonna have to cut a notch in that cross sill to fix that problem. Not a big deal though. The second picture shows how much the cross sill will have to be notched as the bed floor needs to come forward about a half inch to get all of my holes lined up.

It's been way too long since I posted any updates. I've mainly been focused on getting stuff bought for the 383 that my father and I are building for the truck. The short block is complete for it and I'll try to get some pictures of it on here soon. I have done a few things to the truck itself though. I bent and flared all of my stainless brake tubing and got it on the truck. Once I get my new booster and master cylinder I'll finish up the plumbing for the brakes. I set the cab on the frame to make sure there weren't any issues with clearance anywhere. I think I'm gonna like how this things sits when it's aired out!

Here's some pictures.

It's good to see your son is showing interest in the older cars/trucks. Looks like a nice project to start with.

He went to the Good Guys show with me recently in Colorado. There was a small show locally yesterday and then we went to look at the truck. For $2800 I couldn't let it slip away.
