Need help with shop/carport design
 

Didnt know if I could post this on the main board. These pics show my shop and the slab we poured. As you can see in the pics where the door is open, the whole front opens up. I can actually pull the entire nose of the burb in there. What Id like to do is pull thoes doors off and basically enclose my truck, and put big doors at the rear. Only thing is, Its gonna get hot in there, and Id like to keep some natural light too, have thought about doing the roof in clear fiberglass for light. Any ideas??

I havent gotten the inside of my shop organized yet. Its gonna be soooo cool!!

No ideas for the roof. I only posted to say the burb looks GREAT.

Why not keep the shop area and extend the carport back? I wouldn't mess with the roof although If I were to add onto it wold.

I put corrugated clear fiberglass panels on a shed roof several years ago, and kinda regret it (it's hard to keep them clean). They do let in light, but they also let in heat -- lots of heat, like in a greenhouse. How about using fluorescent lights and insulating the roof, and using ventilation... maybe like this:

Thanks sdkid! glad to have her back home. SOM, thats what Iwant to do. Keep the shop as it is, but remove the doors so that I can pull atleaste the front of the burb in If I wanted to. But I want to ENCLOSE the rest of it so that my truck cant be seen or touched. Theres nothing like my truck around here, and even in my mostly private back yard, it draws unwanted attention. Plus, after all she (and i) have been thru, I want to keep it protected.

sometimes people give away garages or sell cheap if someone wants them.
if time is on your side maybe something will come along like that, where someone needs garage moved, torn down etc. ... if you took half of one of similar size and shape that part could just be mated to your existing garage.. ....... there is so much demolition that goes on with people building new stuff that something should show up. you already have the footing for it and won't have to pay for the concrete, so you are technically half way done already......... in a nutshell, you can find all the wood free, or cheap....have it all sitting on a small trailer,.. and take small steps putting it all back together............ p.s. I ramble a little when I sleep good and wake up and drink good coffee.

lol. good morning Kent! That is a good idea and one I wouldnt have thought of, but this is Madison....lol. Youd just have t o know this little dried up "little house on the prarie" town. I couldnt imagine how far Id have to go to get something like that. Dont have as much time on my hands as Id like. the window seals on the burb dont seal that well, even tho theyre new, and water is getting inside. Im absolutely paranoid that its gonna rust out again, so every time it rains i go out and towel dry everything inside.

think were gonna just have to decide on a plan and start buying lumber etc...

If it were mine to do, I'd just maintain the same gable pitch and extend it properly, so you could cover the whole truck. What do you have for a roof surface, now? I'd just keep that same train of thought and make it match. I agree that the opaque roof lets in some heat, as well as light, so that is something to think about, but you could use a couple of panels in the center, length-wise, to do some illumination.

So, what is Madison close to? My oldest daughter lives in Zephyrhills. I can't say for sure, but it seems I have seen the sign for Madison, on one of my visits. We've never been further south than Orlando, but we've been from west to east (Daytona), and down the west and east coastlines to/from Tampa/Orlando.

Hey, didnt know this post was moved here. And Chev, didnt see your post til now. The existing roof is a mix of aluminum and fiberglass panels, kind of a mis match. Thats basically want I want to do, is remove the existing fold/roll out doors so that I can pull my truck in just a bit further. I want to enclose my truck tho, top to pretty near bottom, only thing is, ventilation. Its gonna get hot in there no matter what I have on the roof. I need to stay as thrifty as possible, but needing to get it built.

Madison is a small "next to nothing" little town. We are about 30 miles shouthish west of Valdosta Ga, and about 50 miles eastish of Tallahassee. Not much here, not much to do, lol. Decent schools, including a comm. college. Couple smaller chain grocery stores, Harveys and Winn Dixie. Its quiet and homey.
