Pics for CaptKaos (frame mounted battery box)
4 Attachment(s)
Here are the pics I promised Chris, hope it clears up any questions you might have runnin thru your head.
By the way, the cables are not secured to the battery in the pics, just mocked up while I tidy up the wiring and finish it. |
Re: Pics for CaptKaos (frame mounted battery box)
So you can easily remove that from the bottom?
Any pictures of how that works? Are you going to route the power cable over the frame like that, or like the ground? Why aren't you using an Optima? You truck looks awesome, can't wait to see it finished. Edit: Is rain water a concern (top and bottom)? |

The power cable will be over the frame, I have left enough slack in it so when the battery slides down it wont bind up. The power wire is actually heading towards the back of the truck, where the remote on/off switch is. I chose a regular group 24 battery right now mainly because of price. This battery will last long enough for me to get my money out of it. I can always upgrade to an Optima...but right now I need to get the damn truck together and drive it. :) :( Thanks for the kind words, I can't wait to see it finished either. Chris has the same holder, and he asked me the other night if I had any pics of mine mounted...so I went out to the garage and sanpped a few for him. Mine is on the passenger side, his will be on the drivers side. |
Re: Pics for CaptKaos (frame mounted battery box)
Thanks Jeff! That's what I wanted to see. Mine will actually be on the passengers side also. The truck I am currently working on may get the older tray I have, but Su will get the CCP one. It is still up in the air though...

EDIT: nevermind, he answered while I was typing.
Is there a reason hes putting it on the drivers side? The passenger side helps balance the weight of the driver. Does he have something on the passenger side already? |
Re: Pics for CaptKaos (frame mounted battery box)
Very nice Jeff. How do you remove the battery once it's in place with the bed? It looks like a narrow fit with the wing nut there to loosen. Does it have some other way of securing it safely? With it being low to the ground is why I'm curious.

Re: Pics for CaptKaos (frame mounted battery box)
Brandon, the entire tray will slide out completely...all I have to do is lower it to the lowest position, unhook the cables, and slide the tray (with the battery in it), out.
In the up position, it barely hangs below the cab...about the same height as the bottom of our typical saddle tanks. |
Re: Pics for CaptKaos (frame mounted battery box)
Truck looks good from what I can see! What kind of paint os on your frame? Or is it powder????

Re: Pics for CaptKaos (frame mounted battery box)
That's pretty cool! :metal: I've never seen that before. Where did you get the tray?

How would you jump that if you ever needed a boost? Are there remote terminals for that purpose?
This will be a part of my project! |
Re: Pics for CaptKaos (frame mounted battery box)
You can buy remote terminals, I already have them, just not sure if I will use them.
|
Re: Pics for CaptKaos (frame mounted battery box)
I am putting the remote terminals in the stock gas door location on my 6.0L truck since the tank is in the rear...

I thought about doing mine inside the bed somewhere...but haven't given it a whole bunch of thought. |
Re: Pics for CaptKaos (frame mounted battery box)
Captkaos are you still making this battery tray? If so how much. Did you come up for a kid to go on it?
|
Re: Pics for CaptKaos (frame mounted battery box)
I didn't make this battery tray. CCP did. The link is above, no idea if they still make it, this post is 12 years old.
