WTB 450-600 horse LOW MILES big block Motor

Looking for a replacement engine for my 68... Must be in nearly new, or rebuilt, condition. Include pics and info if you are looking to sell one.
Thanks!

Hi Dave,
Good to see you back online!! I heard you just retired??

My engine guy just quoted me $5500 for a freshly built streetable aluminum headed 496 pushing right at 450HP.. (Bow Tie Preformance in Lake Tapps)

I have a 1968 Corvette 427 with less than 500 miles on it since it was purchase new from Chevrolet in 69 for $7500 (it would need to run on race gas since it has 12:5 to 1 compression).

Hi Mark!
Are you willing/have time to do the swap when I get an engine?
Not interested in race gas:)
This is still my only vehicle & daily driver
Yup, just hanging out in the shop, still making knives, started doing some blacksmithing too. An anvil and hot steel is a real close second to driving the truck:)
When is the next get together?

I have a fairly fresh 396 for sale but it is probably on the low end of your HP requirement. The motor was built by the PO of the truck so I don't know a lot about it but he builds race boats as a hobby so I'm confident it was well done... I drove the truck fully loaded from Sacramento to British Columbia and it didn't skip a beat or use a drop of oil. It is the original 396 that came from the truck (1970 GMC C20) and is fairly mild but does have a lumpy cam. It has about 4000 miles on it and is still in the truck... I could get some video of it running if you were interested. Looking to get $2500 out of it.

Hello,

I've got a 461 with less than 1500 miles on it....Went with a more powerful solid roller (sig).

This engine was only used as a street stock puller for four hooks.....trailer loading and unloading, and occasional short drives for carb tuning.

Was built by reputable machine shop in Denver, build sheet included with many receipts.

Was built to 500 HP with rectangles at 6500 RPM.....But have replaced with 781 ovals, and 67 iron high rise factory intake. Should just make it to your 450 HP mark at 10 : 1 compression. All casting numbers and such available...

Thanks,

A..........

Price? Never thought much about buying a motor from out of state... think I would have to hear it run...

Yellowdawg we are about 60 miles south. I am able to make a reasonable drive to see/hear a suitable motor, though. Where are you on price?

Re: WTB 450-600 horse LOW MILES big block Motor

Since shipping will be horrible...I'd let it go for $2500.00

Engine is on a stand now, but would offer some sort of gentlemans warranty...something like I could hold payment until installed and run for a day kinda thing???? I'm easy like that.

found vid of last hook in this engine....Hesitation at mid track is me.

So we spend all this money having the motor shipped here, I pay to have it installed, and then there is a problem and now the motor is in my truck and the money is in Colorado...

I can't see a way we can put this together without me being certain of the condition of the engine. I am OK with the price and the shipping...
Ideas?
Thanks,
Dave

Re: WTB 450-600 horse LOW MILES big block Motor

I'm SUPER confident that the engine is what it has been advertised as.....I am also a GOD fearing HONEST dude, so if you are the SAME, then I don't see why you couldn't pay for shipping up front to get it there. Then, if for some reason it blows up on you within a good solid day of running it, then you can send me the total price of $2500.00. If it blows up, then you send me nothing, and keep the rest of what is left of the engine. Hopefully that doesn't happen, but if it does, you will have many times the price of the shipping in parts to rebuild, sell, etc....If something silly happens, like say an oil leak, intake leak, rear main seal leak, etc....deduct repair price from total. This engine will be sold minus carb, exhaust, spark plugs, distributor, accessory brackets, etc....Water pump and balancer installed.

This is a big gamble on my part, but I see no reason to question either my engine, or your honesty. ;)

Did you get to see the link? Remember, this was with rectangle heads and intake....You will get the higher torque version, but should still hit 6K RPM no problem!

Let me know,

Re: WTB 450-600 horse LOW MILES big block Motor

I sent down money for shipping and crating. The motor arrived, very well protected. My shop says there are very few miles on the engine, as advertised.
Sent the heads to a local performance shop to have them built a bit. When they get back my shop will install the 454 and pull the 396 there now[which was sold for $150, still running good. After I have a chance to drive it for a few hours I will send the engine money as promised. I will also post [in a new thread] pics of the truck as it is after the swap, and will try the movie feature on my new digital camera.
