not too much to report as of lately. The Toronto boat show is abt to open and we have tons of work to do. I work for the Largest Sea Ray dealer In Canada. so not too much extra time rite now. I plan to get the rad cradel mocked up to mount the rad . then I can pull it apart again . get the eng painted and a few things done , Get the frame boxed up front and then slide the eng back in to start to fab the mounts. who knows ..... Maby it will stay in next time ????????

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.

I have been worken on getting the D60 fixed up, kingpin bearings , bushings. Brakes and such. The eng comes out tomorrow nite after the first fitment. Then the front axle can get some paint on and get bloted in. After that its on to frame boxing . spend a little bit of time everyday. Haven fun and moving fwd. Dosent get much better than that I guess

So lots of good progress to report. Got the D60 front all cleaned up . New king pin bushings , and lower bearings. Brakes and wheelbearings too. Got the 70 rear done to. Didnt do the brakes yet tho. Still at 50 % and Im thinking abt going to rear disk. No sence buying new drums and stuff at this point . Got all the stuff painted and installed. It was way too easy. Something has to go wrong here . Look at the pic of the rear shocks. the dodge lower mount and the 56 gm upper. Fit perfect.!! Added 4 leaves to the front to help with all that extra weight.

Now on to the dodge. going to cut out the front crossmember as I thik i can make it work guite easily. just as long as it dosent hanf too low and hit the front diff.

So enuf with this here are some pics.

I had a 59 gmc 9600 series napco 4x4 years ago like a 2-2 1/2t truck, got stolen from the place it was stored.
Spotted it once but it was gone when I came back with the law.

I was happy on the wknd. I went out and grabbed up the stock dodge steel wheel's and the 70's hub cas I got fit perfect. Now to decide what tires to use. Thinken tall and skinny . 235 85 . BFG. I wish the old style M/T was still available. The new Ta Km is too agressive looking. I may go with a A/T or possibly look elsewhere for a not too agressive M/T.

Have you got your fan yet? What speedo pickup does your T/c have? I have to find a mechanical for mine. Then a longer speedo cable .

Also trying to figure out what Im going to do with my clutch linkage. I am using the stock 56 pedals. I attached a pic. As you can see the pedal arm and the cross shaft are way off. Was thinking abt the stock dodge hyd stuff but there is no place that has a straight swing in the pedal area to push the master.

I took a better look at the dodge crossmember after you mentioned it. The gm frame is wider than it but after I box the front frame rails this will make it a perfect fit. Going to cut the rivets out this wknd. think I will take the dodge front shock mounts while Im at it.

Nice work, can you flip your rear shocks though? It might help keep the surface on the rod clean and not damage the seals and prevent early failure.

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.

I haven't got my fan yet. I will prolly get it here soon. Hopefully it will fit. I am looking for a belt that I can use without the fan but I need to find the right length. I need to check on the speedo but I think it is mechanical I hope. Where did you get the long cable from?

Have you looked at LT255/85/16LT tires? They are getting hard to find, but I have run them on my 99 Dodge for 8 years and like the taller (33.5") but thinner profile.

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.

Hey Luther . Are you taking the fan pulley off to? Im leaving mine so the stock belt works. Just unthreaded the fan from it. No I dont have a speedo cable yet . Was hoping you had figured it out and had a partnumber for me:lol:

As for the shocks diesel wrencher , I did want them mounted the other way as I am sure having all the fluids held in by gravity rither than the seal will make em last much longer. I got lazy tho cus the bushing from the dodge shocks was rusted on there . And that end of the new shocks had no steel insert in the bushing. Ta Da lazy mans answer.!! Upside down shocks!!

Ill get them flipped when you get your frame boxed !!!:lol::lol:

Made a call today as I want to add powerbrakes. I had allready bought the new pedal mount and dual master and pop valve when I installed the first driveline. Now I have all this new stuff and it wont work with any booster I have found yet. Local guy wants to sel me kit with booster , pop valve and master. Thats going to make for a lot of extra hardly used parts.

May still try to make a hydroboost work. I have 2 complete in a milk crate ......somewhere....

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.

I want to not run it so I will have room for the fan motor but I don't know if I will have enough water pump pulley coverage. I think I will prolly buy a speedo cable from classic parts of america.

So I was messin around a bit today and i thought Id better slip some tires on the 56 to see how it looks and to get some motivation before I pull all the front tin to make eng mounts and such easier . These are the 35's off the dodge. I dont want this big a tire just thought id snap a pic while it was in the air. i will post a few pics tomorrow of the GM steel wheels and the 70's hubcaps

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.

Thanks guys. I just took the 35's off and put 4 235 85 goodyears I had on. Much better I think . Going for the 50's 60's work truck vibe and 35 M/T's were far from it . Lol. will post a few pics tomorrow.

No I havent figured out the clutch yet. I wont likely have that figured out till the eng goes back in for another test fit. That will be a few weeks yet.

Still looking to hear if anyone on here has used a hyd clutch setup with the orriginal 55 to 59 underthe floor clutch pedal. Any one ???????

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.

i bet it wouldnt be to hard to make work. i would have to see a stock style clutch set up, but im sure it could be made to work

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.

Hi Ryan.

my main problem with going hyd is that the master need a fairly straight thro on the plunger. all of the 56 parts move in quite a arc. I will deffinately try tho as it would be nice to use the dodge master and hoze and slave .

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.

I would try to rig something up like the master cylinder linkage. Then use these to connect it. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/rus-640281

Here are the pics of the wheels im going to use . As well as my 70's hub caps.

These are just old goodyear 235 85 16 I had. i going to look for a nice square looking tire when I get close to being on the road.

I saw this 73 on here some time ago and love the look of it . I like the white wheels and all new lug and axle hardware for contrast. may considder the white wheels. i really want a set of hupcaps like i have but the chrome ones .
