Wiper Delay Boxes

I've been in conversation with twouvakind since he told me that he was not going to make any more of his wiper delay boxes, and he told me that I was welcome to start making them myself.

I know there were quite a few members here that expressed interest in buying them, so if you want to reply to this thread, I can see how many units I need to build.

I don't have an exact dollar amount yet of what they will cost. The prices of the components to build them has went up, and as twouvakind stated in his thread, I'll have to buy a certain quantity of each component.

Lastly, it will take me some time to get these built, and I work a regular full time job.

I don't have a definite ETA of when the components will arrive once I order them,, with the shipping shortages we're seeing the last few months, but I will build them to order starting out,, and then build extras as time allows.

I will keep everyone updated on status of them and when they will be ready to order.

Thanks,

Doug

Before I commit to buying one can you tell me how much the old unites cost so I will have a ballpark figure?

In June of 2017 they were $56.95 shipped 4.5 years ago.

Parts prices have gone up some as well as shipping costs. I know that I can probably fit them in a small flat rate Priority Mail box which is around $10 to ship in today's world.

I'm still sourcing the components and trying to find the best deal to keep the costs down, which will keep the unit cost lower. Some places want you to buy 500 - 1400 pieces at a time, which adds up quick.

The wiper delay board itself is $16.50 each shipped as I bought 2 of them a couple weeks ago.

Buying all the components and then the labor to build them is still feasible vs paying $576+ for the high dollar version I've seen on the Internet from a couple companies that want you to replace your wiper motor and install a whole bunch of other parts, which is definitely way more involved than the units I'll be mostly replicating from the wiper delay boxes that Bill (twouvakind) made.

I will be as fair as possible on the unit cost, and once I have all the pieces priced out per delay box, it will be easier to figure out the unit cost.

How are these different from the Newport Engineering ones?

Re: Wiper Delay Boxes

I contacted Newport and their wiper motors are made in China so I'll
pass on their kit...if these can be bought for a reasonable amount I'm
in for a few and keep my USA motor.

Newport wants to sell you a whole wiper motor assembly kit for $250 + shipping costs, and it comes with a 2 speed wiper switch. If you want a wiper wash switch, that's an extra $33.95. If you want an intermittent wiper switch, that's another $80.95. A delay extension is another $25, so you'd pay $355.90 + shipping costs for a wiper delay setup.

Detroit Speed Selecta-Speed Wiper Kit is $575.99 from Jegs.

Im intrested, so 2021, maybe $100.00 shipped per unit. Also, I understand about parts price increase and you throw in your labor time.

How much of the parts are coming from overseas. Seems everything is taking its sweet COVID time.

I'm hoping to keep it under $100 a unit. Once I know how much the parts will cost for a complete unit, and then factor in my labor time on each one, I will be able to get an accurate price on them.

I had to order the delay boards from Thailand as that seems to be the only place that has them. I got the first 2 I ordered within a couple weeks. I'm hoping that I can find a stateside vendor that might have them.

Would like to see what they looked like in past and explanation of how they worked meaning on/off any modifications? Do you some how use original wiper knob or does it mount somewhere else? I would more than likely ne interested.

Is this the same thing? I may be confused on what your offering?

Re: Wiper Delay Boxes

It is based off of Bill's (twouvakind) wiper delay box.

https://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vbo...d.php?t=593984

The downfall of that lmc wiper delay module is that you only have 3 delay settings, and you would have to dig under the dash to change the delay setting interval.

With the wiper delay I'm building, you have true 3 to 30 second wiper delay functionality, with only a 5/16" hole for the Switch and knob somewhere on the dash and it would look like it was that way from the factory. There's no cutting of factory wires for installation, and you can remove it and save it for your next truck if you decide to keep the wiper delay module.

Watch the video from Bill's thread and you will understand it better.

Is the switch small enough to mount on the instrument bezel (below the choke knob for example)? If so I'd be in for one. Video still not working.

Re: Wiper Delay Boxes

Question- Could a person hide the on/off switch and place the the new dial with factory knob in original location? Simplify on/off switch because once they are needed and on then having adjustment within arms reach would be cool.

I put the delay box under the dash by the steering column so it is reachable while driving.

Most people are just using the manual choke hole in the dash to install the wiper delay module switch there.
