Testing a Transmission?
 

Is there any way to test a turbo 350 or 400 transmission off the truck?

I received three turbo 350's that two of them were supposed to be good. and one Turbo 400 that supposedly had been rebuilt at one time.

But short of putting them in a truck and trying them out I dont know of any way to test them out. Can it be done any other way?

the only way to test them is with a transmission dyno. only very few large transmission outfits even have one because they cost about what most of our houses do

1 way is to drop the pan and look through the fluid for metal or any junk in there.

Most shops won't waste the time to dyno a trans, unless they built it, and you install it, and it won't work. That's why most shops don't have one. If you drop the pan, and there is less than a handful of shavings, it's probably not any good! Some of the best junkyard trans I've ever used were full of shavings and pieces of random paper? :dohh:
