Front End Rebuild

I thought I would start a thread to document my rebuilding of the front end of the c20. I am just replacing a-arm bushings, ball joints and tie rod ends for now, will do lots more in the future. Thought I would post a few pics of the truck too.

PS - Careful, you might get dirty just looking at these pictures

I bought a basic rebuild kit from kanter.com, prices were good, service was not, but I got all the right parts, so can't complain too much.

Took way too long!!

All cleaned up

New stance, needless to say, I need to bring the rear down a little.
To get this stance, I cut two coils from the front springs and removed three leafs from the rear (left the two top and the overload springs). Two coils out of the front springs was too much I think. I now need to grind off the bump stop stands, so they will stop hitting the crossmember.

And yes, those tie rod ends are for a 1/2 ton, Kanter strikes again :-(
I used them anyway because it needed to be drivable.

Looks much better lowered down in the front! Now I would just bring down the back a bit more and it would look even better!

Re: Front End Rebuild

I need to remove the bump stop mounts from the LCA's. Is it true that I just need to drill out the spot welds and they will come off? I would rather do that than cut them off.

Re: Front End Rebuild

Removed the bump stop mounts today by drilling out the spot welds with a 1/4 drill bit and a BFH. No more hitting the crossmember!!! Yay!!!

Re: Front End Rebuild

Cutting 2 full coils off your front springs, is the equivalent of a 4" drop spring.
(1/2 coil = 1" of drop)
I think you will have issues when it comes time to align the front suspension.

POL (www.performanceonline.com) sells a C20 drop spindle, that would improve your ride quality.
