68 K20 GMC/Chevy

1 Attachment(s)
So I got the title transferred today and got it insured. Wont be home to my house for a week or two. Livrat owned this truck for close to 30 years, Wow!

I wont start a build thread because my plans are mostly just to drive it. Ill add some mags in a little bit. I may change out the nose to Chevy. One of my sons might want the GMC nose for his burb. My goal is to keep it on the road and not tear it down. I don't need another undrivable unfinished project

Whenever I change anything up Ill just add to this post.

Im just happy to have another real truck I can tow with and toss junk in the back without worrying too much.

I gave my 62 Unibody to my younger son (33) he's pretty happy right now lol

It will look nice once it gets a coating of pigeon poop from the barn.

I missed this till now. Last time I saw a picture of that truck it was a 100% blue GMC. Looks like some nice sheet metal on there, though. Look healthy as is, that's for sure. We're in the same place with our 3/4t 4wds. I've had my '72 since '01 and am avoiding tearing it down till it really needs it. As much as I enjoy restoration, I like driving these trucks even more. And once restored, how much ya gonna drive it? I have a toy collection to display. That's where I'm at.

Its a pretty cool truck. 454, automatic. I've picked up a set of nice polished mags. The board member has to dismount the tires before he can ship them up to me.

I'm taking a chance on getting the 16.5 tires though. After a few phone calls the manufacturer assures me they are coming. Might just have some shiny mags to hang on my wall lol.

I have 67/68 Chevy grill set up I may put in it. I'm going to try real hard to not do anything crazy lol.

A 67/68 Chevrolet grill would look so much better. Even though I’ve owned my ’68 GMC for about 28 years, I still always liked the 67/68 Chevy grill so much better than the GMC. Cool truck you have there! :metal:

I agree with Larry...because I'd like to have that grille

*This is not an offer to buy. That would be inappropriate. Still trying to figure out what to call it. I'll have to get back on that

For many years I called that truck "Ol blue" but after I added the original paint Vermillion 68 chevy sheet metal it became "Calico" or sometimes just "Mutt" since its a combination of a 68 chevy 3/4 ton 4X4 frame and vermillion sheet metal, 68 GMC cab, grill and tailgate, and 72 GMC axles (Dana 60).

Re: 68 K20 GMC/Chevy

No pictures but I actually went up to Marks to bring the truck home today. No more trips to Livrats for awhile =)

My son came with me and he drove the truck for me. My daily driver Scion is a company car which I'm allowed to drive anytime, but I think the boss would frown on me letting anyone else get behind the wheel.

We stopped at a buddy's house on the way home to show him my new treasure, did I mention the truck was full of bedsides? He liked the truck but was really interested in the load of bedsides. Want to get rid of any of these? Well I have a nice complete 67 box and a nice complete 69 box at home so letting my friend have a couple of bedsides was no problem for me. He would just give me something in trade down the road.

I didn't have time to unload them and let him check them all out to pick the ones he liked, so I just left the truck at his house and he would go through them sometime this week. I have yet to drive my new truck lol. I can wait another week to get her home. Im anxious to give it a good overall bath and clean up.

I did decide a couple of things though today on the trip back. I watched the truck in my rear view mirror for part of the drive and then had my son drive in front of me the rest of the way.

Im for sure going to go with a Chevy grill now, 68 style. And Im pretty sure Im going to lose the side trim. Even though its my favorite style I think I want to go with the more simple look. And Im going to (eventually) lower it a bit. It has a nice four inch lift, all springs right now. I want to go down to a 2.5 lift. And Im for sure going with a 33 inch tire vs the 35's that are on it now. Overall though Im really happy with the truck. I like the fact it has a big block and auto trans. Its going to be fun making it mine after close to 30 years of it being Marks. Well unless Im out driving it around and someone offers me stupid money for it hahahahaha!

I love having someone else drive my stuff so I can look at it going down the road. We do all this work to our stuff so others can watch what we don't get to see.

New tires are supposed to arrive Tuesday, and the slotted mags shouldn't be too far behind.

First off, I love that truck. I'm currently rebuilding my 67 k20. I'm running into problems finding a 4" lift for it. I'm going with springs in the front and blocks in the back. All the kits I find come with 2.5" wide springs, where as my truck has 3.25" at the shackle and 2.5" at the perch. Maybe I could run spacers at the shackle with the 2.5" lift springs. Just wondering how you did yours. Thanks

CG, that is a very nice truck! I'd be afraid to take it apart. My ocd would render another resto.

I can tell you he bought it this way, but he's friends with the guy who built it. So, he could find out. I think the '69-up leafs work and you just need spacers at the ends

Thanks for the reply. I figured I might have to just make the 69' and up springs work
