Here's a couple of my '62 dash taken during re assembly a couple years back. I went with VDO Cockpit Royale gauges, which I opened up & modified (not an easy thing to do with crimped on bezels I'll tell you :) I repainted the stock pointer colour from black to red, also added the GMC logo on the speedometer & covered over the VDO name with "Murphy's" (my nickname) since I modified them anyway;) I also went with a painted diamond plate as the gauge support panel and repeated that theme making up a filler panel insert for the glove box. Think it turned out pretty cool!
Welcome to the forum, I'm sure you will find tons of cool ideas here! |

These are my gauges that will go back in once the cab repairs and wiring are complete. They are AutoMeter with No Limit face plate. I plan to fill in the switch holes on the bezel. My new to me tilt column has a key & wiper. I'll hide the light switch under edge of the dash.

Re: Lets see your gauges setups
This is a fairly poor pic of mine...finger printed & dusty from putting it in & taking it out several times during the wiring process...but it is all that I have on hand!

Re: Lets see your gauges setups
You do realize that the GMC and Chevy dash clusters are not the same, correct?
Here is a very nice set of gauges that sdwolff98 is installing in his GMC. You'll have to scroll down the page a ways. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...438342&page=11 |
Re: Lets see your gauges setups
thanks for the ideas guys and yes captain fab I do realize that. Now its time to scrounge some money and make this happen. I love this forum so far it gave me the idea for power steering. New crossmember 350/350 setup and other things that are a pain in the ass to make lol.

Re: Lets see your gauges setups
I was able to keep the original speedo (the only thing that worked on my original instrument cluster). ;) Clear anodized the face to match some left over Autometer gauges I had, and used Adobe Illustrator to recreate the speedo numbers and hash marks in reverse and in the correct arch.

Re: Lets see your gauges setups
Well if cash is a problem. The Marhshall gauges in my truck were about $350 and made in usa but I can't figure out why the senders were not. I think I smell a snake here.
They also have LED lights. It didn't come with a speedo pulse. That was about $30 extra. |
Re: Lets see your gauges setups
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from...auges&_sacat=0 They are affortable. They seem to be ok gauges but when you can't spend $500 on them these might do it for you. I really prefer the stock gauges myself but went with aftermarket. I will keep the stock gauges in my other truck.

Re: Lets see your gauges setups
As mentioned mine were done on a budget. The speedo is an Autometer that I won on ebay ,the fuel gauge is a 30 ohm Automeeter that got from Summit and the Volt, temp ,and oil pressure gauges are Sunpro triple gauge set purchased at local parts store. All in all I have about 125.00 for my set up.
Mind you this was supposed to be a mock up ,but it has been in use for about 7-8 years . |
