Wood bed experiment

1 Attachment(s)
I'm just about wrapped up with my 1970 c10 restoration.
After this weekend all I will have left is the bed
I plan on making this a daily driver and don't want to worry about my pine or oak boards if it happens to rain so I'm going to try laminate over exterior plywood.
I'm a cabinet maker by trade and have several 16" width cutoffs of laminate from a job and extra exterior glued ply.
If it doesn't last I got nothing in it.
I wanted to laminate over 1/2" pheloic which would never rot but didn't enough a its way expensive.
Not my first choice of lam color but will look good. Still have to use dado set to take out ends
See pic.

I do lots of laminate floors and never seen one I would trust to last more than cpl months with continuous exposure. Maybe you have something better.

Shame the Trex decking doesn't come in real wood look. Costly but last.

Looks great, keep us posted. I'd really be interested in hearing how it looks after a summer.

The restoration is done and I'm on the road. That Formica bed experiment came out well. Best part it was free by using cutoffs from a commercial cabinet job.
Laminated over exterior glued ply.
See pics.
Thanks. Mark

No problem, some of us like nice orange and white trucks. And we do have wood bed/floors. It came out nice. You should feel free to post it on some of the earlier year forums. Make the rounds.
