I would love to have it, but who knows what I would do with it , or where I could put it!

Wow! that's cool. Wonder how hard parts are to find for that big guy? I bet that dude was King of the road back in his day.

Interesting truck. Wouldn't mind having that one myself. Strange tho, as I've never seen a C-80 with narrow front fenders before. If it is actually an 80, it probably has C-60 specs, but that big 409 engine bumps it up to an 80. Did you notice the GVW on it?

Great pics. The 80 series is much more scarse than the 50 and 60 series.It looks like it is has all the good stuff like 409, air brakes and Budd wheels. That dash cluster must have a tach and air guage too.

The door was locked, so I couldn't get a good look at the dash, but it did not look like it had the guages....


I did not see a gvw sticker... which is strange, because I have seen 1/2 tons with gvw stickers!
what do the big fenders look like?

I just searched around to try to find a pic of a big 63 grille, that would look cool.
I got one of those 456 grilles (c/60)yesterday to put in my 65 c/10

My dad knows the guy that we think owns the truck, so he is going to try to contact him and see if it is for sale, he has the room to store it.
It was last licensed in 1985.

That is cool!! I'd love to have that compressor set-up, been thinking about on-board engine driven air with a york compressor, dunno how capable it would be to run bags....anyway very cool truck!!!!

I am having illusions of a few of my 4-5-6 Chevy trucks hitching a ride on that flatbed. Get it if you can.

I believe the engine is a 348 or a 409 according to the 1964 Silver Book. I think the 348's were in the 50 & 60 Series and the 409's was available in the 80 Series. Also, it appears to be a BBC Conventional Cab and it is actually a C80 with a GVW of 18,500 to 32,000.

Buy that baby and start your next project. I'm thinking something on the lines of a Super Duty F650, that are so popular these days.

Yes I would love to see this restored to new condition, truck and trailer. How often do you see these with the right vintage trailer? I t would make an awesome car hauler too!

I am not 100% that it is a 409, the right hand dipstick is the first clue,however the dipstick mounted in the pan, and sometimes when these motors got rebuilt the 409 pan could be used. Checking the #'s is always best.
A friend of mine bought a "409" dumptruck- turned out to be a 348 w/ a 409 pan. He was disapointed.

The GVW tag should be on the door jamb below the striker or on the tag on the drivers side kick panel.

This isn't the best picture for what the wide fenders look like, but I can try to find a better one later. http://www.gmphotostore.com/prodinfo...umber=53217764 (Click on "View Larger"). The fender "flare-outs" are about 2 or 3 inches wider on wide axel trucks.

Also, the truck should at least have an Air Pressure Gauge in the dash.

Does the book actually say that a C-80 is possible with a GVW as low as 18,500? All the C-80's that I know of usually have a GVW closer to 32,000.

The 1964 Silver Book sounds interesting. Where would be the best place to find one? (other than E-bay).

If that truck is all original with the original emblems and the original engine, it most likely will be a 409.

not to highjack Jonz thread, but I run a york compressor on my 62 with front back and side to side bags, huge 1/2 valves and a 5 gallon tank and never run out of air. thanks for letting me jack your thread for a second Jon

The 1964 Silver Book does actually list the GVW as a range from 18,500-32,000. I pulled this information directly from the table in the book.

I have purchased 1964, 1965 and 1966 Silver Books on eBay. I believe each of them were under $75.00. Considering the information contained in these books, I would pay twice that for them. If you find one on eBay, check the sellers website, because a lots of times they also have a web presence.

In any case, good luck with the search and thanks for shoring up the information I provided. It sounds like you are quite knowledgeable about the 4-5-6 Chevy big bolts!

Are you a member of American Historical Truck Society (AHTS)? If not, you may check into it. I went to a show last fall in Mackungie, PA and it was very impressive to see some to the pristine big bolts restored to their original glory.

I'm not an official member of AHTS, but I am registered on their Bulletin Board. I've never made it to one of those meets, but I have seen pictures and they are great shows.

IF I had that truck it would get repowered with a cummins and the 348/409 would go in my 60

That Rig would be perfect to haul all my junk around to truck pulls and mud drags and what not
