Suburban 2nd and 3rd row seat mounting

Hey Guys,

Does any one have some good photos of the elevator bolts for the rear suburban seats, specifically how they are mounted to the seat frame? I am converting the GMC style with the tracks to the Chevy style. Just looking for an idea of the spacing and hardware associated. Any info on the specific bolt size and length would be helpful as well

Cheers,

Anthony

I have a 61' GMC with the Cleat style mounts (no tracking/sliding system) in back. Is that what your refer to? Here are some pics of that hardware. (disregard the washers)

Hey Music man,

The bolts you have look different then the bolts I had. These are what where bolted to the bottom of my seat frame.

Looking to use the Chevy style mounting system, got a set of these plates from 4-5-6. Just trying to figure out the bolts

Here's another picture of how it mounts in the cleat

Ok. Beauty! Thanks I see how it goes together. What are the dimensions for the elevator bolt? Diameter of the base, length, bolt size and thread? I have plates welded onto my base for the track bolts. I may have to cut them off and drill some holes through the tubing to mount it like yours.

Cheers,

Anthony

Mine doesnt have the flat head style carriage bolts as original. I have standard carriage bolts with the square block type washer but I used lock nuts instesd of wingnuts. Only thing I dont like which I will fix later is when I tighten down the nuts, it pulls the bracket up in the center.

Standard 3/8 carriage bolts work then? I like the idea of the nylock nuts, it would be nice and simple. I figure I will be keeping the 2nd row seat in place more regularly. I want to make the 3rd row seat easy to remove and pack around. It is in the ruffest shap so I don’t mind modifying the seat frame. The plan is to take the third row seat, out of an 80’s burb I picked up. Then take the folding/locking mechanism and handle and incorporate it. I also want to build the 3point seat belts directly into the seat frames, so the lot is removable.

Here is how my seat frame is laid out, haven’t seen many like it.

Hey Music man,

Is it a 3/8-16 by 1 1/2” T-bolt, I thought they were a 3/8-16 by 1 1/2” elevator bolt or carriage style bolt. Or are they 5/16-18 by 1 1/2” or 1 3/4” elevator bolt or carriage bolt? Looks like post 45 talks about the bolts used for tracks.

I will be using seats that were fixed into the suburban with tracks but I will be converting them to the post and plate style mounts in the panel. I picked up some 3/8-16 by 1 3/4” elevator bolts and they will not fit the plate, forgot to bring it with me as a reference. Any specifics would help.

Cheers,

Anthony

They look like 3/8" fine thread. A type of slot bolt. Could easily be fabricated.
On the Chevy's do they use a 3/8" or 7/16" carriage bolt with a wingnut?

Those toolless seat adjustment clamps are genius! May I ask where you found those? Thanks!

Hi Andy; here are some specifics; It's a 5/16 -18 carriage bolt. The head needs be an inch to just fit in and then slide back. Lowe's did not have any with a 1" head in the 5/16" size so here's what I did....wingnut could be bigger to help out on the tightening process. Don't forget about that top spacer.

A few other pics; They were out of stock on the stainless carriage bolt otherwise I would have used that.
