I am not particulary fond of white either but when you live in a city where it gets near 110 degrees.. you dont want to go near a black truck unless you plan on cooking a burger on the hood!

I think you misunderstood. We really do like white trucks.

Oo.. sorry long day. I misunderstood.. I prefer the white model in this city. I had a 90 Z71 that was red interior and red exterior and after awhile it was making me sick.. too much red.

Re: Chevy Sport Truck questions

Man; just read through this entire thread.
I have a bunch of GMT-400 trucks including three 454SS trucks. I had a 90 Sport that I got rid of..
I am old enough to have lived through the era when these things came out and were one of the main reasons I went to work in a GM garage when I was younger.

Just wanted to help clear up a couple of things that I noticed in the thread.. if any of you have any questions that I might know the answers to, shoot!

-in '93-up the sport was available in White, Red, Black and later Teal green. They were pretty much available with any interior (Tan, Blue, Grey, Red.)
There were no leather buckets available in these trucks until the interior change in '95 where you could have Leather buckets. They also were only single cab stepsides in both 2 and 4 wheel drive, and used the color matched W/T grille but thicker.
You could get the color-matched silverado grille on a sport in 95-96 but the truck was still a stepside only.

the rubber molding on the sides of a sport (89-92) always had red in it. The 454SS trucks DO NOT. all versions of these trucks only ever said '1500' with a bowtie.. nothing else (and it was in red.)

There was never ever a 350SS made by Chevrolet although some dealers added stickers. There are more than just cosmetic differences between a sport chev and a 454SS including the 14 bold rear end, heavier frame and brakes, suspension, high back seats, guage cluster to 110 MPH, blacked out moldings, etc. that the sport trucks never had.

The steel wheels available on the sport suspension package are the same as the ones on the sport and 454SS. (the chrome ones.) Contrary to internet myth they are all the same width.

Sport trucks had both a suspension package AND an appearance package. They came with the 4.3, 5.0 and 5.7. Early ones in '89 and '90 could be ordered with a 454 but that doesn't make it a 454 SS. Some of the sports had the convenience packages based on the Silverado (most in my experience) but I have seen many with the 'cheaper' options as well, 5 speeds, no power windows / air / etc.

someone said earlier that the appearance package just color matched the grill to whatever color you had but that isn't true. Early ones were only white, black or red and some later ones green. The appearance package color matched the grill 93-up before that it was always black, with black mirrors. 94- up was color matched.

There was also no RPO for a chrome grill on a Sierra GT/ ST or chev sport.

I'll try and post some pictures of my trucks later on...

http://prestonmoore.com/images/1990_...ZQ8/zz3guy.jpg

Those unpainted wheels were common on base models and police / military vehicles painted either grey or black as well- from about 1989 and up. In 1988 the base wheel was still the good old Chev rally wheel... In my experience most of the Silverado's from that era with the sport suspension had the chrome wheels like that -

More people need to learn this. They're all 15x7 whether they came on a 454SS, Sport or just a standard model truck.

This has been my suspicion all along...do you know if the 350SS stickers/emblems were GM parts?

I saw one a few years ago in Saskatchewan it was a black 4x4 with a 5 speed. It also was bare optioned and being used as a farm truck. The 350ss stickers and emblems were never GM parts.
I currently have 2 white 93 454ss trucks one with 18000 miles, a 90 454ss, a 98 ex cab stepside 4x4, a 2000 crew cab gmt 400 shortbox with the L29 454, 2 sc stepsides one 88 one 89 and have owned a few others over the years. I'll get some pics up soon! Oh and just sold a 97 burb and had another 89 sc stepside stolen. Fun!

I just found a Chev Sport and will probably buy it... Only asking $1000. But it doesn't have the original rims. I wonder if they'll be hard to find. I remember when buddy of mine had this exact truck years ago, even the spare was chromed... it was stolen and later found out it was worth $600

Hey Takkotime. Are you located in western Canada? do you know of any sport rims laying around?

I'll have to try to get some pics sometime.

Finally came across this truck parked -- I usually see it on the road:

I did check the RPO list in the glove box, it is there.

Unfortunately, where I thought I'd put a copy of the list, along with description of each code, I didn't. For some reason I only saved a partial list. So I will go through it again and show where it shows the code and stated "bright grille" (I think).

Never seen a Sport with tan interior...but there's one on Ebay right now. It's in rough shape, but the seller is presenting it as an original Sport. Link

Couldn't figure out how to copy the pics from Ebay.

According to the truck's VIN, the interior is correct and it is a Sport.

Probably even more rare was the 454SS that was on eBay a couple years ago with a tan interior. It was reportedly factory original that way too.
