They are factory 4X4 rallies for a 73-87 IIRC.I gave about $120.00 for all 4 with trim rings and centers in good driver shape.I don't like the 4X4 centers so haven't cleaned them up to run.

Hi Wes,
What kind of rear door hinges are you going to use. I noticed the hinges on the completed truck are conceled. Are you using a similar hinge? Could they somehow be used on a full sized rear door?

I have decided to use the rear door hinges from a 2008 extended cab Silverado. They are a single piece hinge with stops built in. Expencive though, about $280.00 or so each. I think that they will be worth it though, if they work like they do on the Silverados. If not I have some Jeep wagoneer hinges that I pulled a couple years back that will do the job. I didn't want to use straps or anything for stops though. WES

I always love a good panel thread. Though I would throw my rust bucket in the mix. These a are pics of the truck while I had the windshield out and was welding and repairing the channel and dashboard. The first one is the day I brought it home, and the last one is just another winter day in michigan. Looking at these pics of the other 68's has made me wonder if the gas fill on this thing is original. Mine has a door that you press on the one side and it opens. The others seem to have a cap out in the open. What do you guys think??? I love driving mine every day and cant wait until the next big repair (probably the rockers and floor pan). BTW that front fender has already been replaced. and this thing still sports the 250 I6 with the 3OTT. SAVE the PANELS.:chevy:

Gas door looks like a mod to me. As far as I know all trucks, blazers, subs and panels 67-72 had exposed gas caps.

I'm with you 68-C10 Panel, I like a good panel truck thread! Nice to see your pics. I like your snowy day in MI pic with the bikes.
As for your "rust bucket" that looks good to me as well, reminds me of how mine looked during the last 10 years previous to the 2009 big push to the end.

For what's it's worth my 68 panel had an exposed cap on the side before my restoration (it now has a tail-light filler) and I believe, like Long Roof said, the exposed cap is standard. Your filler door looks good though. Here's mine now.....

Robb67 , I like your tail lights filler. I assume that it is led lights? Look really good I need to do something with mine as soon as i get all the 100+ hours of welding in patch panels on the rear end.

Thanks Big Blue 72, no LED just re-used the same factory socket and bulb set up. Yeah, after all the rust repair the original filler hole was covered with new sheet metal and I figured I'd either have to cut the new metal or go for a side marker or tail light filler. It seemed a shame to cut the new metal for some reason. The side marker filler idea didn't work due to a cross member under the floor in the wrong spot and the resulting filler tube angle required to over come that obstacle wasn't going to work. The tail light seemed to provide the easy path/angle to avoid a "slow drinker" at the pumps .

Thanks Sublvr 72, I only filled up a couple of times before winter storage but it seems to work pretty well.

So I'm guessing you bought trz1000's panel? Nice! Seems like a great deal.

That's correct, it was picked up by the transporter a few hours ago! It should be here some time on friday!

Hey Robb,Just thought of something you may want to know.When you swap to front disc brakes the new spindles(at least 2 1/2 drop ones) kick the mounting flange for the wheel to the outside about 3/4 of an in.That makes an 1 1/2 in diff in track width from front to rear.It's not a lot but it is noticeable if you know what you're looking at.There are some 7 in Rallies from vans but IIRC they have a different # of the slots around the inner wheel.If you want aftermarket wheels then you can correct it with BS.

I'll be dealing with that very thing. I did want to go back to rallies when all is said and done, but I know that some of them won't clear the disc brakes, either. I might end up keeping the aluminum wheels I have now and using a spacer on the rears.

On the other hand, someone once told me that it very difficult to roll a vehicle that has a wider stance in the front than the rear :lol:
Like those French cars-Citroens (sp?) You never see one of those upside down:lol:

Thanks PanelD, that's very helpful. I was thinking of sticking with the drum brakes for the time being and maybe add a boost to improve braking; but disc brakes are definitely something I'm considering as well and I wouldn't be going for the Citroen look.

Pritch-funny thought about the Citroens...now I think of it I have never seen one upside down.......:lol: and Pitch when you get to the filler I can email you some pics of what I did for your reference.
Or maybe I'll just get them organized and put them on this thread!
