1963 C10 Paint????

It's my very first restore and the truck has 41,000 original miles. The truck belonged to my wife's grandmother who bought it new in Mabank, Texas. I'm doing everything I can to restore it back to it's original condition. The cab and chassis is at the body shop and they are just about ready to paint. Now to my question.

The original paint color was desert beige but when I went to the auto paint store there is not a mixing code in today's paint to match. He even called a couple of paint manufacturers and they both said the same thing. Has anybody found a paint color that comes close to matching desert beige in today's modern paints????? Thanks in advance for any help you might give me....

I'm not sure if having several different manufacturers paint codes for the same color will help in cross-referencing a current mix or not, but take a look here.

Might want to try a different paint store. My local auto paint supplier (a PPG dealer) has the charts and codes for cars and trucks going back to the 30's. He had no trouble matching my interior and exterior colors on my 60 C10.

DuPont was the original supplier to GM for these trucks. When I had my truck painted I called them and asked for customer service. They have all the codes and readily suppied the paint shop with the mix recipe.

Sent DuPont off an inquiry as to the formulas or to whom we could direct a supplier to contact. We'll see if they get back in touch.

Well still no luck in finding the mixing codes for the 1963 C10 "Desert Beige". So today I got a couple of paint chip books from the body shop to see what I could find close to desert beige. I think I'm going to with 1991 General Motors Alabaster 56/9610 B9120..... Thanks for everyones help and if find something different please let me know. Wednesday I'm going with the Alabaster....

Is your tk paint code 528? the # i gave you was wrong? the new one is Ditzler/Ppg is 22143 the cross to DuPont is 4323/4323L/ or 93-77785
Martin Senour # 488
Sherwin Williams # is 1744

don't know if this will help at all. also be careful with looking at paint chips as sometimes to color comes out different.

61K10.... You are right the paint code off the truck is 528a or 558L. Thanks for the cross reference numbers. The body shop wants to use dupont paint say I'm going to take your cross reference numbers to the paint store with me tomorrow and see what they can do..... Many Thanks.....

Re: 1963 C10 Paint????

you didn't say what process you are going with bc/cc (base coat/clear coat) or single stage (no clear). TCP Global in southern ca can mix this i believe in both. I used single stage from them mixed in urethane.

Re: 1963 C10 Paint????

Going to with a base coat then the clear coat. Hopefully the cross reference number you sent me for DuPont will do the trick.

With all the help everyrone sent me we still could never get the mixing codes for the Desert Beige paint for today's modern paint. I was able to get pretty close with another color. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all your help and effort.....

you must be using some real special paint! Your paint shop is just like going to an auto parts place now-days. Pretty sad.
