Dash Emblem Question?

Mine is a 72' C10
On the middle of the dash above the ignition switch is the ignition emblem.
What goes to the right of that, just on the other side of the ash tray?
I see 2 small holes like something goes there but I could be wrong. I looked in the LMC catalog but can't find any thing. Just to be clear I'm not talking about the glove box. I'm talking about just above the cigarette lighter.

Or Maybe the previous owner drilled those 2 holes there for some other reason.

Thanks

Re: Dash Emblem Question?

Can you post a picture or give some dimensions of the holes? Are the edges of the holes raw and un-painted? Maybe not factory holes? Was VERY common back in the late 60s to early 70s for a previous owner to mount a mike clip for a CB radio in that area. Might be a possibility with that.

Right, a pic would be a great help. My dash looks like Swiss cheese, from the stuff my FiL did, not that I am complaining. We do what we want to what we own.

I believe it’s the cigarette lighter

The holes are 3/32" diameter
And 1 5/8" apart.

Maybe your truck was a right hand drive at one point and the ignition switch was on that side? Just kidding- l have no idea what they’re for

Re: Dash Emblem Question?

CB Mike mount , you can also verify a cb install by looking at the bottom edge of the dash to see if there are more holes that would have been used to mount the cb brackets . At any rate they are not for any stock application .:chevy:

Re: Dash Emblem Question?

I can see where you thought it could be for another emblem. Looks the the ignition emblem would go right to those holes. Seems an unlikely place to place a CB mic, right over the lighter. There is room to mount a mic on either side of the radio. Definitely not factory. My '72 has pairs of small holes about 1/2" apart from a vacuum tuning gauge the previous owner had moved around to different locations

Might have been for one of these since its in the same proximity as the cigarette lighter/charging port... https://www.ebay.com/itm/California-....c100005.m1851 State of the art communications back in the day...;)

The phone would have cost twice as much as the truck !

In the early 1980's I did a lot of private aviation work and a few jet owners had a "mobile phone" about the size and weight of a truck battery with a dial and handset like a home phone of the day ,

Re: Dash Emblem Question?

I think the holes are too small to have anything hanging off of them. There is no stretch in the metal from tightening the screws either. Whatever it was, it didn't weigh much.

Re: Dash Emblem Question?

I second the cb mic, mine has the same two holes I like to put a no smoking emblem there the same size as the ignition emblem. If somebody make them I would buy it !

I'm going with "it was my first day at GM and they fired me for drilling the ignition emblem holes in the wrong place. "

Somebody mounted something there, who knows. It's not stock. People did weird stuff in the 70's.

Re: Dash Emblem Question?

My 72 Blazer has the same identical holes in that location. Same size and spacing. No idea what that would be for though. Just saying its weird that my truck has the identical holes too.

- Also - I think they are much too far apart and also too small to be screw holes for a cb mount. Plus why would the driver want the mount that far away from him?

Re: Dash Emblem Question?

That’s funny ! I know mine was the CB mic mount cause I took it off, there is holes drilled for a gun rack , holes above the drivers door , holes in ceiling in front of the mirror, a extra set of gauges, then a slew of holes drilled under the dash on mine ! The owner before me was the accessory king , heck I removed air horns ,and a front trailer hitch
