Met a wise guy yesterday

Ive been taking in my piles of old wheels and tires to have them dismounted. I keep the wheels, they dispose of the tires.

Rolled in and there was a fella there in a little Nissan 4x4. He looks at my GMC and says, I see you are like me. How's that? I drive a Nissan, wish I had a Toyota. You drive a GMC wish you had a Chevy. Oh man did he find that amusing. Wow kinda harsh dude. Naw man, I'm just giving you a hard time, did you know that GMC's are for guys that cant afford Chevys? This guy was on a roll.

He said he would like to put a 350 in his Nissan someday. I got him here. This one has a 454. Then he tells me he as a 454 he would like to sell, hmmm, interesting. He says he will take 200 bucks for it, only has 30,000 miles on it. Sitting in a mid 70s motor home they are parting out. I doubt the miles, but if its a rebuildable 454 it might be an option for me. Have it rebuilt so I can keep driving my GMC and be able to swap it out when its finished without much downtime for my truck.

So I grab my little notebook I keep in the truck. Here bud give me your name and phone number, maybe I can come take a look at the engine ( I actually have no idea if this is even a good 454 candidate worth rebuilding, going to have to do a little research as in call Livrat lol) Its in Spanaway, pretty good drive for me, we'll see.

So he hands me back my notebook before he drives off. Oh hey, do you know what GMC stands for? (ugh) No, what? Gay Mans Chevy ... he laughs and drives off.

Re: Met a wise guy yesterday

I have a feeling he could sit there all night and come up with "Phrases o' GMC". I only have one Nissan stands for "Nitwit is some simple ass... nitwit. I dunno. Who cares? Ha ha, sounds like a real good conversation starter? Not!!

It sounds like he's jealous to me.

Re: Met a wise guy yesterday

Well, I have a GMC that I enjoy very much, and someone driving a Nissan talking s#!t about my truck, well...

At any rate, in my area $200 for a complete rebuildable 454 is a steal. If that mileage is legit and you can get it to run as is, even better!

Most times them motor homes have a th400 behind those bbc's. At that price its certainly worth a look even if you have too put up with a few lame cracks.

Deal with his jokes and buy the BB. The joke will be on him when you have a beautiful 454, you will be the one driving off laughing with a $200.00 BBC.

Re: Met a wise guy yesterday

A big enough motor home could have a Th475 straight cut planets in low.
And the 454 should have a steel crank and rods

Its all fun and games until someone gets hurt!!

We tend to get a bit creative around the shop picking on our fellow Rottenwood GMC owners....I have to be carefully though because I own 3. I did manage to fix two of them though with Chevy front clips...LOL.

I like this guy. Not because of the GMC insults.

I always thought GMCs were the expensive version of the Chevy. Nicer options etc. Heck they had 4 headlights and Chevy's only have two...

i like GMC's. But I don't know much about Nissans, maybe they are better. Maybe that guy was better. I like GMC's.

I have joked with my bud whom has a GMC like that before. There are lots of automotive jokes around. Those older Hardbody trucks are well know long runners.

I would not wish to be in an accident in one of those!

Got
Mechanic
Coming
just kidding, i've owned both and would be proud to drive either. on a different note: 95% of all ford trucks built after 1987 are still on the road-the other 5% made it home.
:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Re: Met a wise guy yesterday

Yeah, I think he either liked your truck and that was his way of letting you know, or he can't like it because he was so envious...or takes the negative knocks approach because he figures he'll never have one and be stuck with his Nissan.

I have a one liner for him, "Nissan makes great trampolines". That was the first place I ever saw the name Nissan, back when the cars were Datsuns.

GMC stands for Goobers Make Comments! How about Got More Clout, since GMCs have hauled megatons more product and fought more wars than any other company that makes a pickup.

I doubt that 454 exists. That was probably what his weird ego had to come up with once yu said the truck has a 454. Although... the in a motor home part with low miles gives it some substance. Either it's real or he knows how to come up with that stuff same as all the other crap out of his mouth

i have met a few like that in my time. some were legit jerks. some were dingbats that didnt have a clue.
and some that didnt know how to start a conversation, were rough on the surface but great guys underneath it all.
it takes a while to figure out which is which.

Re: Met a wise guy yesterday

The guy may be a clown, but another thing that motorhome may have is a Gear Vendors unit.
And I'd agree that $200 is a good deal for a 454 core, and a great deal for a good runner.

Well if he answers when your ready to call and he gives you directions to the locations that could be a good start . Is it still in the camper can you hear it run, or crank over a good amount of times .I'm in no way a expert on knowing what to look for myself . I got the help of good friends and good folks here for that. I meet all kinds' in my fifty two years and as the saying goes , you can't judge a book by it's cover . And if all works out make sure to thank your fellow American in the foreign vehicle. My feelings for American products is my freedom.

That's funny right there... I don't care who ya are!

I have owned a number of GMC's over the years, and the best one I ever heard was that GMC stands for "Give More Cash" at the parts counter. LOL!

I shot him a text this morning asking for more specifics on the motor home. He already gave me the address the other day. Its a pretty long drive though to check out until I have more info.

BTW I think it was just this fellas sense of humor. Was just kind of funny because he didn't know me from Adam. Maybe he was just a little nervous being in the glory of the GMC haha!

He texted me tonight, no new info. Its a late 70s or early 80s motor home with either a turbo 400 or turbo 350. Not much help haha

I had an opportunity to get (2) Chevy 454s. Free. There was a catch, though. They were attached to a 30' plus Chris Craft!
