Spark plugs
I just installed new Champion plugs in my truck, part # 018-3325-0 RV17YC
Are they good, bad, or indifferent. I just found the numbers on the old plugs and replaced them for new. I'm not much up on the new spark plug technology out there so I just followed what I had. Posted via Mobile Device |

Champions belong in dodges and lawn mowers. A Gm should have ac delco. Autolites seem to work ok also but are ford plugs. Ngk or denso for foreign stuff. Spark plugs are entirely more important than most people give them credit for. Bosch are garbage especially the +2 or +4 plugs.

I have no use for champion plugs....did mower/saw service for about 10 yrs. In that time, we sent many new plugs back as junk! AC delko(Albert Champion )....never any issues, but I run NGK plugs in my 383? I dont want to start a fight here.....just what I prefer;) crazyL

Ngk do seem to be a pretty much universal plug. I have gotten away with using them in all kinds of random stuff with no issues. I havent ever had to trash can a set of NGK's because a vehicle was running bad. However I have put more Bosch,splitfire and champions in the trash than I can count that were practically brand new after someone tried to do there own tune up and couldnt figure out why the vehicle ran worse after the tune up.

I agree with crazyL and cableguy. I use NGK's in all my vehicles. I usually stay away from foreign parts and let the import kiddies have them. But NGK is one of those brands that never fails me.

What's the part number for the delco plug?

I used Champions for a long time with out problems, until 2005 when I noticed the new set I put on my just-rebuilt 292 were sucking badly. Turns out they were being made in Mexico. So I switched to AC Delco. No problems. I think I used RN17YC on V8s. AC # is R44TS. My L6 292 uses AC R44XLS.
I heard somewhere the shorter Accel Header plugs burn out early, but I haven't tried them myself. |
