Accessing under Floor Master Cylinder on Task Force
 

I am going the be running the CPP under floor master Cylinder in my 59. The location of the master cylinder puts it right below the front seat riser in the cab.

I assume that the front seat riser provides structure and stiffness to the cab floor. What have you guys done for filling the under floor master cylinder?

Could I cut through it to create an access door if I built in some support from underneath with some box tubing?

I don't know exact location of what you are talking about to give you details but you could easily create the access and strengthening area to gain access to the master.

You can also use a master cyl with a remote reservoirs. I think some big block Chevelle's used them in the late 60's.

I made my own brackets based on aftermarket basic designs. I moved the booster and MC back so that the fill cap was behind the first cab cross brace. I made an adjustable rod between the lever and booster. Then fabbed the door as shown with piano hinge and capture nut. Used wiper hose around the cut edge of the door for a seal. I used Yukon 3rd row seats and made the frame so the tilt feature works (also for easy removal).

Thanks for posting that Orrie! That's exactly what I had in mind. So yours is a little further back than an aftermarket one? I think mine will fall exactly under that riser, and I was worried I might lose too much support by cutting it and boxing around it.

as long as you keep the geometry of the pedal linkage the same right under the floor,where the original linkage connections are, the pushrod from there to the master cyl could be made longer to reach the master cyl placed further back on the frame where you would like it to be for access purposes. orie's is placed so he can access from under the seat. your's could be the same if your seat is flippable. I also like the remote res for the master because the power brake kits can be mounted as they were intended and there wouldn't be a hole to cut. the remote res could be placed where access is better and it would likely be checked more often. also some guys use a hydro boost system because (it is claimed) the smaller diameter vac boosters don't work as well as a hydro boost does. this makes sense if you do the science of square inches of diaphragm exposed to vacuum inside a smaller booster compared to a larger booster.

But if you cut the riser and just box around it ,should be ok the sheet metal is a lot more ridged than youd think,
But if you tac/weld in your frame that you are going to box it in first prior to cutting the riser should ease your concerns for any flex or movement.

Id cut some cardboard and try fitting your hand through it to get a good sized door opening.
OrrieG's door looks kinda tight, like id be leaving some meat on the surrounding sheet metal.

If you can get the top off a mirror, squeeze bottle and some tubing work. Works better of the tubing will hold a shape.

How often do you need to access the master? I go under my truck once a year and check it, so I don't see the need to get at it through the floor.

My thoughts exactly. Having it under the floor hasn't been a problem since you need to access it so seldom. The ones I wonder about are the ones where it's mounted under the dash.
