Door panels?

What kind of door panel do you prefer for 67/71 trucks? Black steel panels look good because of contrast. I personally think the vinyl looks cheesy.

Re: Door panels?

Basic steel panels are cool, but my favorites are the vinyl covered ones for giving a high quality look to the interior. The seat, dash pad, and visors are vinyl so the door panels make the interior complete. They are what the cars had in the same era. I was never too fond of the '72 panels back in the day. I felt those were cheesy for being plastic, the first step toward the cheapening of how trucks were built. First step away from a metal truck, same as grilles from '69 on.

Re: Door panels?

I like the ones I have made up by my local guy. $100.00 for the set and if some one has cut holes in the door for speakers it covers them also. I had the 71 & 67 both done.
Leather in the 71. Vinyl in the 67.
:chevy:

First set in the 71.:chevy:

^^^ Now that's cheesy! JUST KIDDING!!! I like all the personal touches you have done that are of your own creation. Leading, not following is a good thing. I plan to do roll & pleated panels in my '67 era mild custom.

Has anyone ever tried to have the plain black metal door panels covered in vinyl?

All this talk of cheesy makes me hungry for a grilled cheese sandwich.

I have the plain jane steel panels and have no intention of changing them

When I had my 70 GMC it had the vinyl panels and I had no intention of changing them either.

I guess it all depends on the truck and what look you're going for.

I went with the older style (67-68?) door panels in black to go with the headliner I added in my '71. The original scroll panels were painted red and worn out and there was too much red with high pile carpet and all the paint. Back in Black baby...

I got these off of ebay from seller rrachal11.
They were fairly inexpensive, about $100 including shipping.
He makes them with the Chevy logo, but I wanted them without.
He does a bunch of different types of panels, so just send him a message and tell him what you are looking for. He probably can send you pics of what he offers.

One thing...getting them in the upper door panel trim was a chore. I ended up sandwiching the upper edge of the panel in between two pieces of wood with clamps overnight to compress the foam enough to slide the panel into the trim.

^^^ these you show would be perfect for my truck.
Thank you for sharing this.

I have sent a message to the person who sold them to you as they do not have any available thru ebay at this time, only ones for 50's era trucks.

That's what the factory did. I've had custom panels done and installed them. You should get the top retainers for the vinyl panels when adding it to a truck that came with plain steel. They are made to accept the thicker panels

Without the trim piece I guess you would have to figure out how to attach them.

There are like 4 screws holding the trim piece on, so you could use screws to attach the top of the panel at those locations. I think the trim piece gives it a finished look.

For the bottom I just used large headed black phillips head machine screws.

The trim pieces are readily available from lots of companies, or I am sure you could find some on the For Sale page here.

I just sanded, primed, and painted mine gloss black.

The seller is very responsive. You have to reach out to them thru the ebay message feature, but is fairly easy.
He sent me pictures of the design he offers (what is pictured in this post)
I am going to purchase a charcoal gray set to match the interior of my truck.

Hi fellas,
New to c10's here. Just got a '68 CST.
Are the door panels interchangeable with early 70's C10's?
Looking to get these for my '68
thanks!

Up to 1971. 1972 had panels that required longer posts on the window regulator and door actuator. 1973 and up, no fit.

My Burban had these in it when I got it. Steel panels covered with some padding and fabric. I added the 1950 vintage arm rests. Truck had no arm rests when I got it.
