lowering advise needed
 

ive had a few 88-98 trucks that ive lowered, never a "square body."
i picked up a 87 halfton 2wd suburban recently, and want to drop it.

how, what, brand?

i dont want to lay frame, but i want it to be lowered. and without air. id like to keep the nice ride too and not make it seem like i have 2x4s where the springs used to be, so on these vehicles, whats the go to way? spindles and flip kit? spindles and drop hangers/shackles?

sorry for the noob question, but i do appreciate the answers as the search feature here doesnt seem to get me my answers quickly.

Spindles & shackles/hangers if you're just wanting a mild drop (2.5"/4"). A flip kit is 'usually' too much drop for Burbs out back & creates headaches. But, if you want to go for more drop, the flip is the option.

what does a flip kit gain you drop wise on these? is it 5 like the 88-98s?

It depends on the quantity of leafs in the spring pack. The more leafs it has, the greater the amount of drop from where it currently sits. A quick check would be to measure the spring pack & add 1.5" to it to get an idea of the drop.

Mine is flipped and too low for normal driving without a small notch , lift shackles, air shocks or bags...or a combination of a couple of those options. I have mid-priced air shocks and they blew out internally pretty quick with a full tank, kids in the back and a full ice chest. I will be going with 1" lift shackles and a helper bag setup of some sort.

As an aside...the front is lowered with 2.5" spindles and one coil cut. The flipped rear is a bit lower than the front without air in the shocks.

Spindles will maintain your ride on the front since you are just lifting the wheel up you aren't changing spring rates. Shackles in the rear should be good. Spindles will get you a 3" drop but you will need a 17 or bigger to clear the lower control arm.

well the problem is, i plan on keeping 15" wheels.

Good man! I'm not a fan of big wheels. Western Chassis 2.5" spindles with 3.75" backspace wheels...no grinding for wheel clearance.
