Replace fuse block

Okay so im wondering how complex it would be to swap the fuse block located under the dash with another one? Now to explain, for whatever reason in my trucks previous time before I owned it apparently there was an issue with the radio wiring shorting and causing the area around the radio fuse on the block to melt. I have went though the wiring and checked everything out and all has been taken care of except for the fuse block.

What all would be involved in taking a block from a donor truck and swapping it out?

I considered this on the 86' ranch truck we have. For only the plastic block to be swapped, you'd have to pull the pins from the rear of the block by depressing tabs on each terminal from the front side of the block.

Similar to you, I have a burned hole where the parking light fuse was (trailer wiring short). It was patched around using an inline fuse holder outside of the original fuse block.

I did replace some other terminals one at a time (collateral damage), but these were all on the load side of the fuse block - single terminals. The power side of the fuses, a lot of them are bussed together. You would have to simultaneously depress the tabs on all the terminals to get the bussed ones out. Might be able to walk them out, not sure.

I did this last summer on my CUCV Blazer.

Its not hard but very time consuming and you need a lot of patience.

You need to extract the packard terminals one at a time and then correctly insert them in the new block.

Its also much easier to pull the whole harness out of the dash and do this on the table or work bench.
