Wheel Problems

My truck currently has some Steel wheels on it right now with little 235 tires on them, Ive got some 37x13.50's mounted on some aluminum wheels that i bought off of craigslist that were listed off of a 1/2ton chevy pickup just like mine. The mounting flange on these aluminum wheels is probably like an inch thick and the lug nut studs just are barely even with the flange(side where you would put the lug nuts on) when the wheeels are installed. Also the stud holes in the wheels are noticably bigger than the lug nut studs.

Anyone else came across this before? I called a tire shop here locally and they said that if i could source some longer studs that it should be fine to run them that way.

Re: Wheel Problems

thats normal you do need to replace the studs with longer ones
aluminium is soft and any mounting flange made thinner would pull the nuts right through the rim check out big rig rims those are about 1/2 inch thick.
its a bit of work to clear everything around it to get the studs out ....... european cars are a little eazier since they use bolts

Re: Wheel Problems

Without seeing a pic of the wheels I can't tell for sure, but it sounds like you need to go with lug nuts like these.

Re: Wheel Problems

I went down to the nearest tire shop and showed them the wheels and they helped me out telling me i needed the lugnut style you showed above Chuck. I put my 37's on last night and took the truck out wheeling for the first time at the dunes and blasted around for a while.
Thanks guys

Re: Wheel Problems

I know this is a blast from the past but could someone send me a pic of this lugnut style? The photo 72 customcamper put up is no longer visible. I just got my front hubs installed on my 71 K10 rebuild and realized my wheel studs do not protrude outside my rims. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Shawn

Re: Wheel Problems

They are called mag-style lugs or shank-style. They take a flat seat on the wheel, use washers, and the shank sleeves between the wheel and stud. I know Pep Boys sells them and any real tires store should be able to help. I just looked and none were handy.
