Well time for an update. The Burb has been sitting. With our local economy in the total dump, money is beyond tight. Unfotunately I have to move the burb to another location. The work that was completed 6-8 months ago went south.

Before we were able to seal the primer, enough moisture got under the primer to rust and blister the primer. So, time to take back down to metal. New type of primer and paint is going on Monday.

Picked up the new windshield today and the gasket should be in next week. Gotta order the side gaskets that are $$$$.

The main thing is some new side glass.

Does anybody know if the original was laminated or tempered. The existing appears to be a mixture of both.

Also, anybody have a good ( cheap) place to get the glass or should I just have it cut and made to match ?

I believe the original was tempered. My truck had both and I found shards i n the truck indicating that one or more windows had been broken and replaced with lam. I replaced with lam and cracked one piece putting the interior trim back in. Take the extra time and get the tempered; it will have to be sent for the process.

I called all the local glass shops here and found one for $189.00 out the door ( uninstalled) with out the gasket. I have several catalogs that show them. LMC is $399.00 plus shipping and Classic Parts is $424.95 tinted and $374.95 shaded plus shipping.

If you have an Ever- Ready Glass in your area you could check with them.

I found both laminated and tempered side glass in mine also. I know that with three boys growing up we broke our share of windows in that beast. Just don't know which ones. were the replacements.

www.truckandcarshop.com

They have a lot of parts for the '60-'66 Chevy/GMC trucks, Carryalls and Panels.

Try your local automotive glass shop. I found one here in Kansas City, that will work on the old stuff and has furnished and installed three 4-5-6 windshields for me for a little over $200.00 each. I had to provide the grommet, but that is a lot cheaper than the price of the glass from the local aftermarket truck parts suppliers...they also warranty the glass and installation.

For what it's worth - I read a while back the laminated glass originally came in the trucks with metal frames around the door glass, and the tempered door glass came in later trucks after they dropped the metal frames.

Hi guys..does anybody know about the headliner in my 60? It is a hard cardboard like material that fits between the exposed ribs. Wondering where to get it or what it would be called to search for it.

Thanks

Bill

Well getting closer to paint. A few weather detours. The hood is about ready for final primer and paint.

Just the latest.

So, it has been a year since we ceased working on the beast. Money and time has been real tight. But, time to get paint on the truck. Hopefully within a week or so.

KIC,

In your memorabilia, you have the OEM owners manual, (Comic book) DON'T EVER Sell that, talk about rare. Geez, I lost my Original one in Katrina and had to have a color copy made from Arthur Throckmorton in NV. I've collected a about 90% of all the stuff on the GMC trucks. Do you have or are you keeping the V-6?

Jake

Good to know about the OEM manual. Don't plan to get rid of any of the books/paperwork as it is original to this truck. I do have the V-6 and keeping it all original. Gas hog it is, but bullet proof.

Sorry about your loss in Katrina. That really sucks.

I have seen a couple around. Which one is yours ? What color ? What part of town ? Would like to look at yours if you are around sometime.

Hey all,

I posted this in a separate thread, but thought I would throw it out here too

As my Burb slowly comes together and is so close to coming to color, I need a little info on the dash board color.

The dash top is a dark greyish black. Does anybody know a good paint color (stock) number ? My Burbs ready for paint and we will be pulling the windshield when we paint, then installing the new windshield.

While the glass is out, I want to paint the dash top.

Also, any info on replacement of the inside exposed insulation for the roof. Would like to keep it all as close to original as ca$h allows.

Thanks for any info you might have.

Bill

KIC,

According to the information I have on the CD ROM from the 60-66 GMC Club. There are two different colors and I'm not sure which is correct. However, these are dupont formulars and I don't believe they will match new codes, so I think we bnoth have to match with our eyes.

Cab Interior
Silver Grey #94162
Silver Fawn #17552

Cab Dash & Floor
Charcoal Grey #76603
Charcoal Fawn (Non-Gloss) #95505

I know the dash was a flat dark grey (charcoal)
See attached pic of arthurs truck interior which is 100% correct.

Re: 1960 GMC Suburban

Does anybody know if the 1960 Suburban had two different silverish gray colors in the interior ? Like one color for the dash face and a few other trim areas, and a different color for the interior side panels?

Thanks for the tip. I'm now armed, bought a vicious watch dog, electrified the fence, welded the nut to the hood bolts and plan to sleep in it from now on. :ito:

A few hoods are still around. I have seen them in junk yards. So many of them were replaced to make the older ones look new that they are few and far between. I love the eyebrow hood too.

(Remember: Look...no touchy ! ) lol:metal:

Got to work on the Burb over the weekend. Getting so close to paint. It has taken so , so long. But since the work is being done outside and is at another location, timing is everything and lack of money is everything else. A couple of friends helped out and we got a lot done. Also working on the interior parts.

My Brother-in-law is staying with us for a short while and loves to work on the GMC so I brought all the interior parts home and he has been sanding and cleaning so most are ready for primer and paint. Hope to paint this beast in the next month. ( But I have been saying that for a year....)

The work is continuing at a rapid pace. Painted the inner fenders, the front behind the grill painted the dashboard primered, the inside hood has been painted and clear coated, the interior parts were primered and more. Hope to paint the roof tomorrow. Also, been polishing the front grill. there is a picture of one of the light rings before polished and the one that hasn't been done yet. :smoke:
