03 GMC Code P0449 = Bad Gas mileage Help!!!
 

Hi I have a 03 GMC 4x4 ext cab And my check engine light came
on So i got my code reader out. It is a Can OBD2 Reader from
O'Reillys It said '' P0449 " In the book is said ,Evaporative Emission
Control System Vent/Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction
I called all the parts stores and they said call the dealer that they
couldn't help. Maby somebody can tell me what this it Because
when the light came on I started to get 16mpg And before
the light came on i was gettin 23mpg Thanks For Any Help

I'd get it diagnosed by a local shop before you start buying parts and installing them :D

I dont even know where the Vent/Valve/Solenoid is
Its not under the seat of my truck Im not shure what
to look for. I dont want to take it to a dealer just yet...

On the older V8 Vortec the solenoid is on the passenger side of the intake next to the throttle body. It has a has plastic tube goes to the canister. I'm thinking they said driver's seat but maybe they ment on the actual frame rail under the driver's seat. This solenoid clicks when it is cold out on my 98 GMC and my canister is mounted at the driver's side of the radiator. With space in the engine bay groing scarse, they mount the canister under the truck. I think on the later S10s it is under the be on one of the frame rails.
