Re: Finally finish burb soundproofer

a cheap way to do this if any one wishes to know is use roll on bedliner all sound deadener is is just weight to thicken the pannel and keep it from rattling worked professionally doing audio bedliner was always a cheaper and easier way to do it and never had to worry about pannles not fitting back on or cutting the holes out or it not sticking properly

looks good on the deadener though just throwing that out there if any one needs an easy cheap way to do it also

What color interior are you going to put in?
I want to change mine but not sure what color to go with...

Re: Finally finish burb soundproofer

I'm going with a saddle/tan interior with congac carpet. Carpet is installed and most of the trim is in. Waiting for the scuff plates to get powder coated and the rear side panels to get new carpet installed. Everything else is in.

Here's the latest pictures. It's still in process. And about the red door panel inserts-the spousal unit likes them. Later, Tom

Re: Finally finish burb soundproofer

Looks damned good. I too like the red inserts on the doors adds a nice contrast to the tan interior without being ungodly gaudy. One suggestion if I might? Get one more "JESUS HANDLE" and mount it above the drivers side front door. It really helps out for climbing in & out. It also helps to make things look more symmetrical inside as well.
When i did mine, I measured the front passengers side then transferred the measurements to the opposite side. then using the proper size tap (5/16th") and the right size drill bit I drilled & tapped the holes then sliced the headliner just a bit to allow the bolts to to pass through.

Here's the only pic I have of it right now.

Re: Finally finish burb soundproofer

Dave,
I've got a couple of extra handles. Thought about putting one on the drivers side for a nano-second, then went on to something else. It's only a ten minute job, might as well go ahead. Thanks for the suggestion. Once I get the side panels on and the scuff plates on (out being powder coated silver), I'll snap some more shots. Thanks, Tom

Wow! Tom, that looks killer! Good job, what are the plans for the seats?

TLoz 12-08-2009 12:11 PM

Re: Finally finish burb soundproofer

The seats are stock, cloth, high back buckets in front. Kinda of a gold color. All three rows are cherry. Just had to re-foam the arm rests and clean the rest-no holes or rips.

Tom that look awesome! keep up the good work.

I have one request...my drivers side right arm rest com off the other day. how do they screw back in??

TLoz 12-08-2009 02:28 PM

Re: Finally finish burb soundproofer

On this suburban, the front arm rests has two screws that screw down the arm rest into tinnerman nuts inside the door. It also has one stud coming out the arm rest that attachs to the door panel itself with a tin nut.

On the rear door, it only has the two screws going into the tinnerman nuts. Different years may have different setups. Some may have the stud some may not. Hope that helps. Tom

Re: Finally finish burb soundproofer

Your other right, lol
as I'm sitting in my driver seat the right arm rest (by the center console) has a 5inch carriage bolt that screws in. My wife took the suburban to pick up the kids and came back said it fell off. don't know how but gotta fix it.

TLoz 12-08-2009 02:43 PM

Re: Finally finish burb soundproofer

Oops! Sorry about that. The way I got the seat arms off was to work the cover back about 2 inches and remove the long bolt that you're talking about. It just unscrews. I assume that the seat has a nutplate or a nut welded to the frame. The bolt should have a loc-tite materail on it to keep from backing out. If you can't screw it back in, most likely need to remove the seat cover and repair the nut. If it does screw back in make sure you put some red loc-tite on it.

Re: Finally finish burb soundproofer

looks nice. whats up with the shifter?

TLoz 12-13-2009 11:11 AM

Re: Finally finish burb soundproofer

The shifter is a twin stick for the 4wd. It allows independ shifting of 4wd/2wd and hi/low range. The boot came with the kit. Don't remember the supplier, maybe Colorado something-i'll find out. Always had trouble shifting in the past.

The carpet side panels are removed by removing the plastic side window trim. Then, remove the 6 screws on the pass side and 3 on the drivers side. I was out installing them last night until 12:30. What a PITA. Got it done though. Later, Tom
