Interior and tonneau cover materials
 

I have a 71 c10 swb I need to get the seat recovered, what materials are you guys using. I want it to be nice but not super expensive, it's a driver not a show truck. Has anyone covered the metal door panels to match the seat?
I also need to have a new tonneau cover made with snaps, truck already has snaps in the bed. What material would you use on that also?

tonneau top material comes in 78 inches wide to go across the bed in one piece , regular auto vinyl is 54" and has too much stretch to be used on a daily driver .67-71 door panels can easily be covered with vinyl by glueing it on to the face and wrapping the edges , search at the link below for all you material needs .

Thank you!!! Thats info on the cover I wanted, I had an apoulstry shop ask if I wanted it done in boat vynal?? Is that even close to this product? Or the same?
Anyone have pictures of door panels that are wrapped?

Boat vinyl has bi axial stretch and is not wide enough to make into a tonneau cover without having to piece it together with a seam across the bed ,Also when it gets hot it stretches ,when cold it shrinks . Tonneau cover material doesn't have as much stretch built into it so it is less prone to billowing when riding down the road also it is made to be built in one piece being 78 inches wide and comes on the roll as long as you want to buy it . When the snaps are already drilled into the bed the cover has to be custom made on the truck to fit also it should have wooden stays spaced down the length of the bed to keep it from sagging . The northern areas may use marine vinyl for tonneau covers due to the extreme cold in the winter ,When you unsnap a cover in cold weather it will shrink considerably (even in just a few minutes) and become hard to re snap closed . The last custom tonneau I did I used semi truck tarp material. Can't recall the name. It is stretch, tear, shrink resistant, as well as very very tough. It's what it was designed to do. I flipped that truck, so all my tools (compressor, table saw, miter box, etc) ended up on the tonneau and it stayed snapped with no tears or damage. That's a tough tonneau cover. It was matched to trucks interior color

I think this is the material special -k is referring to it's called Herculite and it is extremly tough stuff ,generally used on large tri axle dump truck tarps , It has NO stretch ,no tear, it's the toughest tarp material I know of and when cold it's not easy to work with , I have a red Herculite tarp and you can't kill it they are tough and heavy .:chevy:

Grumpy Old Man. Is the chrome piece across the top of the door panel a factory piece? My truck does not have that. What sounds like a fair price to have the bench seat and door panels covered and to have the tonneau cover built? Just for reference when talking with the apoulstry shop. The chrome door panel retainer came with the vinyl door panels...67/68 Custom/CST Chevys. They are the same metal base model door panels wrapped in vinyl.

That's it. Because I always remember it as Herculon, which I know is wrong. I figured you'd know.

I built those seats and wrapped the door panels for a neighbor of mine a few years ago . I built another set of buddies for his brother last year and I have a set of buckets I'm rebuilding for him now that are rusted to death and all the lower metal skirts are rusted away . He has 3 more sets of buddies in his garage waiting to be reupholstered .:chevy:

Grumpy old man, when you wrapped the door panels, how did you get the vinyl down into the recesses? And how well are they staying?
I assumed spray adhesive, industrial strength. Hair dryer to warm vinyl enough to be pressed down. But didn't think they would press down enough to look good, and they would unstick when heated in the summer sun.

I use Dap weldwood adhesive spray grade and run it thru a cheap harbor freight spray gun . On the steel panels once you cut the material oversized by 3 inches ,center the material and fold back 1/2 spray the material and metal panel ,allow to tack and slowly work from the center out using your fingers to lay the material into the grooves in the panel all the way to the end of the panel . repeat the same process on the other side ,once the front of the panel is done flip it over and glue edges allowing time for the glue to tack up before adhering . low temp with a heat gun or use a hair dryer to help with wrinkles . it will not come off in high heat . clean up any over spray with mineral spirits .:chevy:

These cheap harbor freight guns work spraying glue and I use them also for spraying high build primer . the gun on the right has had glue run thru it for years without clogging up .

you want a hint ? does this look like your bike seat with black carbon fiber inserts ? or maybe a hint on your truck seat built from Army surplus tarps ? You'll have the only 67 flip seat with head rests a center fold down consol with phone charger and a set of hidden cup holders that no one has even seen before ,One of a kind !

Grumpy, the seat looks spectacular. This thing was rough when I dropped it off to him, it is a corbin seat but had this vw material on it that would chaff your tush when riding. Plus the piping that was on it would cut into your leg, Grumpy removed all of that and tuurned it into a nice riding custom seat.

Well Grumpy and I hashed around some ideas for a custom tonneau for my c10 today I have a few ideas in my head and Grumpy actually had some awesome thoughts on how to design it to look old school yet have a modern function.

You need to wear jeans or something (please, anything :lol:) under your chaps when you ride


BTW Grumpy, that red interior is pretty much awesome looking. I really like it a lot.
