'97 is MPFI. You'll you need everthing including heads and up! You'll need all the sensors and wiring harness. Basically, an entire engine swap plus programming. The ECM controls shifting. Too much trouble for FI. You are better off installing an aftermarket TBI or MPFI system. Sell him your stuff then use it for an aftermarket TBI system.
www.jegs.com and www.summitracing.com have systems available.

Heads are the same.... well port wise carb intake or fuel injection intake can go either way.

Big problem well not to big is you would need the crank sensor and timing cover not quite sure the crank sensor will would fit on the older crank.

Awesome. Just picked up a 96 burb with an l29. I plan on building it and putting it in my 85 next winter.

oh nicd you will love the engine responds real well to simple bolt on mods. im about to go back to a stock cam for towing but its wicked with header and the 454 ho crate engine cam

Like mentioned above, everything will bolt up to your long block. You will need the ecm reprogramed. When the ecm is reprogrammd, the trans operating part of the ecm will be turnd off. The best way is to dyno tune the truck, this way the engine runs at optimum and they can adjust any ecm parameters you want. So there is some cost.

SSC, send that stock cam to Delta Cams in Washington. They can regrind it to a great towing grind - somewhere in the 212/218 range on a 114LSA, great economy and towing power out the wazoo!
